Anyone know the address for the Contemporary's North Wing?

MarieA- I agree with everything you said. We're still hoping for A DVC at the Contemporary.

Mama2Matthew - I understand what you are trying to say. I would guess that 4620 is the North Wing since the South Wing is listed as 4560 and the Tower is 4600. Based on the permit issued, it appears that 4620 N. World Drive is going to be demolished. The records for the South Wing and Tower clearly state rehab on them. It also seems strange that the records for 4560 list it as the South Wing and 4600 list the Tower but 4620 doesn't have anything but the address. Add to that the rumors that have been circulating and the fact that when the South Wing was renovated there were no booms in the water (as there are for the North Wing) I would say this is going to get very interesting. :rolleyes1

I guess we will know very shortly whether the North Wing is going to be demolished or simply renovated.

My (wishful) thinking exactly. :thumbsup2

Here's hoping for some more definitive answers soon!

I'd like to chime in a bit here.

Now... I'm not a DVC member yet (still hoping for the right one), I live here in Orlando and we pretty much camp at the Contemporary arcade.

I was talking with the CR CM (not saying which one, to protect him... let's just say he's in supervisory capacity) and this is what he said:

1. North Wing is to be demolished - in it's place will be the new DVC resort. It will be 15 stories high and in a U shaped

2. Construction will last approx. 3 years.

3. Because of the DVC plan, some of the changes to the actual Contemporary:
a. Concourse steakhouse will be gone
b. Chef Mickey's will be expanded to the former Concourse steakhouse space
c. Outer Rim lounge will be gone, replaced with a food court
d. Arcade will occupy the Fantasia store space, with the store moved to the center of the concourse
e. The lobby where the arcade (Fun & Food Center) will be a new "business class" restaurant and the food court will be the lounge
f. The 4th floor will be designated the "family area" and a new 4th floor walkway will be constructed to the DVC building
g. Because of the arcade moving to the 4th floor, the arcade will shrink from 150+ games to less than 75 games and will be more of just a game room :( :( :( or if it's not viable, it'll be GONE alltogether

Currently (as of Oct 1) the North Wing is closed. As of Oct 14, 2006, there is a permanent chain link wall around the entire North Wing, including the walkway from the lobby. Construction/demolition trucks haven't moved in but there are some prep work trucks already camped there.

We were told the same thing (Chef Mickey's expanding, arcade and Food and Fun Center moving, walkway to DVC from Grand Concourse, Concourse Steakhouse moving to 1st floor) in August 2005 and August 2006 by managers at the Contemporary.

We visited the Contemporary this past August and took a walk around the Grand Concourse. It appeared that they were preparing for the walkway to the new building.

A CM at the CR told us about the DVC high rise just a few weeks ago too. Not a supervisor though.

We just returned from Disney last week (Oct 5th) and while there was told by a CM at the Contemporary that the North wing is being demolished to build more DVC rooms! Wonder what the cost of that will be :confused3 Also went to a DVC presentation where I asked the people there and they confirmed.. :cheer2:

We also just returned (Oct 7). No one we spoke to would confirm anything about the Contemporary, though. We did speak to one CM who said that she was sure the CR would happen eventually, but that it would make more sense to buy into SSR since they have the lowest dues and the points could be used elsewhere... Did the CM at the DVC presentation give any specifics?

Also, does anybody have recent pics of the new fencing around the North Wing and the "water booms"?

:cool1: The people at DVC were reluctant to talk about the Contemporary but did confirm that yes the north wing was being turned into DVC resort, should be completed in about 2 years...the CM at the Contemp though said it would be a 12 story tower. That's all I know, sorry ...hope you had a great trip..we certainly did:Pinkbounc   party: :jumping1: :maleficen :hmghost:

Does anyone know the timeframe of when they sold VWL & BCV?

I'm only asking because I thought they sold them relatively close together & they were, in fact, 2 resorts that would appeal to 2 totally different groups of people.

I've been of the belief that the CRV will happen......If the pics that I posted were the actual designs, then it seems that DVC is undertaking a pretty major construction project & that will take some time.

I'm assuming that SSR is closer to selling out than most people think & AKL was the resort that they could have ready to sell the fastest..... :thumbsup2

I think that makes total sense. The timeline fits.
I am not sure if the tower is a go but I am hoping that Disney does build DVC at CR and that plans are starting to either demolish the old North Wing and build the new tower or at least renovate the North Wing and turn them into a DVC.

Time will tell.
I am still hoping.

:sunny: Good morning...when we were at WDW a week or two ago...we went to a presentation at SSR ...they are building 2 or 3 new buildings there for club members...I'm sorry I forget how many more rooms they said they are adding. They did say it was one of their more popular resorts for adults esp. By the way, bought my membership just yesterday ...and so did my daughter and son-in-law..all thanks to my son who has had a membership for 2 years!

I think you're hitting remarkably close to the mark.

I'm not exactly sure what's going on with the North Wing. I've heard both things: It's still slated for demo and It's going to undergo rehab. Nobody seems to be sure which is the case.

But I think you can make some logical assumptions and follow that path down to the conclusion that CRV may still be very much alive. From what I know, both projects were definitely under consideration and AKV got the green light..maybe just first.

The current scuttlebut is that SSR will sell out sometime early next year. Because much of the infrastructure for AKV is already in place (and was put in place when AKL was built) AND the fact that they can actually get some units ready by the end of '07 was, I think, the reasoning behind giving AKV the go ahead first. It seems that maybe CRV was, overall, going to take MUCH more time to bring online....more than they initially thought, even.

So maybe, just maybe, CRV will be the next announced DVC property (or maybe even the one after that..following an announcement of a DL DVC).....one going on sale much closer to it's full opening (say, maybe 'late 08 or even late '09). We'll know much quicker than that, obviously, because of construction, etc but they may opt to NOT open that one in phases, simply because of the sheer amount of construction necessary to open it.

WebmasterDoc just posted pictures of the fencing and water barricades in another thread. I'm convinced the NW is set for demolition, not rehabbing. Only time will tell... :goodvibes

One thing is for sure, they can only go so long at the Contemporary and hide it. Either they will have to start doing a rehab or start taking it down.
