free or highly reduced tickets for Universal / IOA?

A little bit afraid to trust any offers without hearing from you folks! Has anyone recently had an experience with this?

Thanks for any info you can share! :goodvibes

Most timeshares will state a 90 minute requirement to get whatever they are offering

However... When you get there you will be invited to go into a lounge for snacks, coffee, etc.

When you are finally taken to the salesperson is when the clock starts. You will be invited, after a movie or something, to tour the property. Ths will be in a golf cart. You will be far from the sales office when the 90 minutes is up.

Once you get back you will still have more to go through, possibly a "manager" coming in to offer a better deal than the original salesperson.

Actual total time from arrival to departure will be closer to 2.5 hours rather than 90 minutes. Add in travel time both ways and how much time will you be spending?

Calculate your vacation time and hourly cost.

Take the total number of hours from the time you leave home until the time you return. Then subtract out the time sleeping or otherwise spent in your room. This gives you actual vacation time in hours.

Then take the total cost of your trip, transportation, tickets, lodging, meals, etc. Divide this by the number of hours. This gives you a cost per hour for your actual vacation time.

Now look at what you are getting, and consider how much it is really costing you.

BTW, almost any Disney ticket you get from a timeshare promotion (especially if you get a voucher) cannot be upgraded or modified in any way.

Years ago, my (now) wife and I sat through a timeshare presentation for Universal tickets. It was a compelte waste of a few hours, but the length of the trip allowed for such a waste and the savings on teh tickets were worth it in our opinion.

I don't believe that any complicated formula is necessary to determine this worth. It's as simple as getting an entire day of fun in return for a few hours of your time. If you have those hours to spend and the savings is significant to your budget, go for it.

I wish that I had a good timeshare presentation to send you to, but I do not.

The timeshare presentation that we went to years ago was more like what Cheshire Figment described - a big horror story - never again :scared1:

thanks for the replies so far. We definetly don't want to get into one that will end up taking up the majority of a day but we are willing to waste a few hours (total time getting there and spending there) to get some free tickets. It would also be really annoying to have to deal with high pressure sales people who don't take no for an answer but....basically that is why I asked here on the dis....I am hoping that someone out there has been through one recently that they can recommend.

You could apply for the Chase Visa with the 50,000 skymiles. They offer Seaworld and US tickets. I think the 50,000 miles would get you 3 free SeaWorld and 2 free US tickets.

I couldn't stomach going to a presentation knowing I was not at all interested in purchasing a timeshare. I don't feel it's fair to the salesman as they get paid based on their sales and not only are you wasting your time, you are wasting theirs. This is just me though, but there's no way I could do it.

I wanted to come back and add that I am not judging anyone else who wants to do this. It's not my place to tell anyone else what to do.

I totally get what you are saying but I don't look at it that way because it's obviously set up knowing that probably 75% (okay just throwing out a #, I don't really know) of the people that come to the presentation are just there for the tickets (or whatever they are offering that day). Probably if they get one out of every 10 couples that come, they are happy.

I am not sure of what is being offered for IOA, but the couple of times that we have sat through time share presentations to get tickets we always made sure we were at the very end of the day (usually a Sunday) and that way when we said no they didn't push...they were ready to go home and we were clear from the beginning we weren't purchasing. In and out in about 68 minutes...but who was counting :goodvibes

Brilliant! I will remember this hint.

Great hint. Thank you. Do you know if they usually check to see what day you arrive? A lot of them say that you can't do the timeshare presentation on the day you arrive in Orlando...

We are getting in on a Sunday....

I'm not sure, but I think that we did it the day we arrived too, got in early on a Sunday and did the Timeshare that day around 5.

just remember that some salesmen will consider nonbuyers as available targets for venting their frustration (as you basically are wasting their time.)

unless you love conflict and have a lot of vacation time to waste, i really wouldn't bother with timeshare presentations.

I bid on a timeshare presentation package on ebay 5 nights/6 days at summer bay resort with a choice of 2 wdw/seaworld/US tickets. They had other options with better ticket packages but I just was interested in the resort stay. Will I buy, probably not, not because I would not be interested in it but I wouldn't buy impulsively like that. I would like to see the resort and look into buying a timeshare from a owner. The salespeople know that not everyone will buy but they also know a large percentage get caught up in the hype and do buy right away.
