I'm ready to cut my locks and would love, love, love to donate it, but it's color treated and don't know if Locks of Love accepts color treated hair.

Does anyone know?

1. We accept 10" minimum hair length (tip to tip). We cannot accept wigs, falls, or synthetic hair.
2. Please bundle hair in ponytail or braid.
3. Hair needs to be clean, dry, placed in a plastic bag, then padded envelope.
4. We need hair from men and women, young and old, all colors and races.
5. Hair may be colored or permed, but not bleached or chemically damaged (if unsure, ask your stylist).
6. Hair swept off the floor is not usable.
7. Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
8. Hair that is short, gray, or unsuitable for children will be separated from the ponytails and sold at fair market value to offset the cost of manufacturing.
9. You may pull curly hair straight to measure the minimum 10".
10. The majority of all hair donated comes from children who wish to help other children.
11. Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails for donation.
12. Please note: Anyone can cut your hair as long as the above guidelines are followed.

Now you can give it away.

I am hoping to donate for the second time in the coming months....I was wondering the same thing....I had permed my hair a year or so ago for the first time in eons. Thanks for the link!!!

I donated my hair two years ago, because my sister passed away from cancer. That was 14 inches. I will do it again in Aug. at our Relay for Life walk. I already have 10 inches, so should give about 12 inches this year. I color my hair, and there was no problem. :sunny:

That's such a great thing to do. If I could manage to get my hair to grow out I would do it. Kudos to those of you who have done it.

Sorry for the copy and paste earlier today. Most of my computer time is spent while cuddling with my toddler, so it's difficult to actually type words LOL

This Spring I donated 12 inches of my hair to Locks of Love. I am growing my hair and will do it again when the time comes.

Keep in mind that you do not need to have the 10 inches if you still want to donate. Anything smaller will not be used for wigs. It will be sold to offset the cost of the organization.

I sent 12 inches last April. My third grade students were shocked at my short hair, so I told them my hair had moved to Florida, and had them write a story about what my hair was doing there.

What a great thing to do!! My hair isn't long enough.
Do you think they would accept lime green hair?! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the responses! :goodvibes

Thank you ArtsyPics for the great info. :thumbsup2 I'm going to have my hair stylist measure my hair this week. I'm nervous.... but it's for a great cause. My hair is just above my waist, but with long layers. I hope it's at least 10 inches!

I have a girlfriend who has alopecia and wears a wig, and I know her struggles and can't imagine how a child must feel!

I think this is a great cause...and THANKS to all of you who have done this and/or are thinking of this! :thumbsup2

Just wanted to share a story:
I am a nurse for special needs children, and one of my patients donated her hair this past May. She was turning 5 years old and has a disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy...she has very little muscle tone. The doctors gave her 18-24 months to live-TOTAL. Like I said, she turned 5 in May! She has only gotten her hair cut around her b-day each year (she hates haircuts) and by this time her hair was almost as long as she is tall. This year her family asked if she wanted it trimmed or if she would like to donate it to children that also have diseases and are sick. So this wonderful little 5 year old girl asked to give her hair to other kids! She donated 11inches! princess:

What a beautiful story!!! :cloud9: Thanks for sharing that!!! Got me all misty!!

I have donated mine about 5 times. Luckily my hair grows fast! I have donated 10 to 27 inches (yes that is 27 inches from one cut, and I still had 15 inchs to spare). I loved doing it but can't handle the headaches from the weight of my hair anymore. I have been keeping it short :(

My hair was dyed a med. auburn, all over single color. I know they accepted that, but now its highlighted and blondish in color and I would have to get rid of all of that to be able to donate again.

I loved doing it and miss being able to do it.

Congrats to all that do!

Lori

My DD had leukemia got leukemia at 2 yrs 10 months and after chemo ended 2.5 years later, she let it all grow out and then donated it to other kids going through chemo. She is doing it again and I am doing it with her again too! I am a PROUD MAMA!!! if I could post a picture i would!!
