I know they sell Mickey waffle makers, but is there any way to get a Mickey face on a pancake for a little remember-the-magic breakfast at home? I made pancakes this morning and was longing for WDW and Mickey pancakes....it'll be at least a year before I can go back. :sad1:

If anyone has tips they would be much appreciated. :)

I will pour the pancake batter into 3 attached circles to form a Mickey head but I don't know about the face. DD gave DH the Mickey waffle iron a few years ago for Christmas so I will sometimes use that.

If you can find a large mickey head cookie cutter, you could cut them into shape after you cook them.

I thought they did sell Mickey head cookie cutters. Just place the cookie cutter on the griddle and pour the batter inside. It should stay together well enough when you flip it, so you can take the cookie cutter off before that. Good luck!

i actualy do them by hand-i use a small ladle (smallest gravy size they make) and i first spray it with pam. i pour out the big head, then two smaller ones a few seconds later for the ears (that way it does'nt run together, and the "head" has a little more cooking time than the smaller ears need). i've tried the metal frame things they sell, but honestly they did'nt work well for me. i got the idea from the old pancake house that used to be in disney land-they used ladles for years until they got those metal things with the handles to drop the batter.

I use to be a grill cook, and I made mickey pancakes for any kid that ordered a pancake. (I made them for some adults too!)

I had a pancake gun at work, but you could use a measuring cup, or ladle or anything.

Other people already suggested with the two small circles and one large. My recommendation is to make the two small circles (ears) first, spacing them just right, then add the larger head. When I did it opposite, I always ended up with one ear bigger than the other, or one ear that didn't "grow" quite enough, and never connected.

I'm sure it would work either way though, I just always had to make everything VERY fast to please the customers, and this was the quickest most successful way I found.

I then always added chopped sausage for the eyes and a bacon smile. You can even cook bacon in a smile shape.

Now, I'm thinking we need to have mickey cakes for breakfast in the morning!

They sell mini-Mickey molds which are supposed to be used for eggs and pancakes. I bought a two-pack off ebay a few years back and though they don't work all that great for eggs/pancakes, they make awesome Rice Krispie treat molds.

This is exactly what we do. Add blueberries to make the face :)

I make these too. One trick I've found is to put the batter in a squirt container (like the ketchup/mustard bottles you take on picnics). Makes it easier to control.

I have always done it this way too, my Dad used to do this for us as kids. (I also make snowmen (3 connecting circles each getting a little smaller) and a flower for DD (one larger circle in the middle with little ones -petals- all around it) The kids love yelling out what the want as I am pouring the batter. We decorate with the syrup and some whipped cream...

Oh man now I want a mickey cookie cutter to make rice crispie treats!! Have you seen them anyplace recently?
I make the pancakes the way everyone else does here- two circles for the ears and then the bigger head. Kids love them!
I am always making pancake shapes. My ds was going through a dog phase and we had dogbone ones for a few months! just 2 hearts on one end of a longer log!

If you have the Mickey waffle maker, you can cook your pancake in there. We've done it a lot.

i make the 3-cirlce pancakes. they're awesome...but my college roommates thought i was crazy cause i always made them that way. what do they know? :teeth:

i also like to pour the batter for the middle circle slowly in a circle..it makes a neat swirl if you do it slowly, which kids think is cool. ; )

Here's another version - but a bit more work.

What you'll need:
A regular piece of computer paper
A wire mesh splatter shield
powdered sugar
pancakes

Take the piece of paper and cut out a mickey head. You're not going to use the head, you're going to use the OUTSIDE part of the paper, so cut accordingly.

Place the paper on the splatter shield.

Gently lay the splatter shield on top of the pancake (or hold just above the pancake) with the paper on top and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

The powdered sugar will "transfer" the mickey head shape to the pancake. Enjoy!!!

This might be tasty w/ cinnamon sugar or maybe chocolate milk powder, too. Cocoa would be too bitter by itself I imagine.

Use a spoon and pour the face (eyes, nose, mouth) onto the griddle first, let it set about 30 seconds or so. Then pour the 3 circles over the top of them. The face (eyes, mouth, nose) will be very visible because they were cooked longer and separate.

You can also put your kids initials onto regular pancakes that way.

This site has instructions with pictures, under "The Art of Mickey Pancakes" -

I haven't tried the face yet - DS is happy with 3 circles. But I do use a plastic squirt botte that came with candy-making supplies (for those chocolates you melt and mold) and it makes it easy.

I love the initials idea, and the powdered sugar stencils, too!

I have found a way to make a perfect Mickey Pancake. You will need the Mickey Waffle Maker. Just use pancake mix and put it in the waffle maker. Makes perfect and yummy mickey pankcakes.
