Now that I seem to have conquered my terror of flying with the help of some lovely anit-anxiety medication, I am planning on going to Hawaii for summer vacation next year. My only problem is that every one of the islands sounds perfect. My instinct is to not get on another plane after braving the 9.5 hour flight from New York but I don't want to miss out on any spectacular islands because of fear and laziness.

Have you been to Hawaii? Which islands do you prefer? Please share your experience with me!

check out the cruise lines that sail Hawaii. They might just get
you to all 4 main islands.

If I were to pick an island that has it all, it would be the
"big island" of Hawaii. Erupting volcanos, fern covered valleys,
black and white sand beaches, horse back riding, golf, great
sport fishing, incredible scenery, much of the history of the islands rulers...

I've been on all the tourist islands including Molokai and Lanai,
the smallest two. Maui and Oahu have the most tourism, Kauai
has the most rain. Molokai is the most laid back and Lanai has
the most expensive resorts. Small planes connect them all.

Have fun!

It has been many years since we were there, but we still talk about 'The Big Island, hawaii', as being what we would have thought to be 'Hawaii-like', more pristine in its grandeur. It is so very pretty there, an ideal place. Enjoy.

PM mommytotwo, she lives in Hawaii and would be able to help with all kinds of questions.

We went this year at spring break. we started out on the Big Island and spent four days and it was very restful and enjoyable. Very slow pace. You get to see some very different aspects of the island in a very small space. then we spent 3 days on Oahu. It had it's good points as well and there are more tourist things to do but it was more crowded and a much faster pace. I think the thing to do is to just move there and then you could see everything. I don't think I'll come home if I go back.

I know it's an island.

:teeth:

But that's all that I know.

The big island if you want laid back.......fewer tourists
Oahu if you like lots of clubs and excitement
Maui if you like lots of younger people
Lanai if you want to relax and not do much but love a wonderful view
All in all.........the big island is probably your best bet for a one stop all around beautiful trip.......mahalo
