Anyone know about USPS parcel post delivery?

I bought DS a costume on EBay on October 7th. The seller took it to the post office on October 9. According to the tracking, it got to the Richmond, CA facility on October 13. That's what it has said for 6 days! Do they hold on to stuff or something? This costume is for Halloween, but he also has a cub scout party THIS THURSDAY. I'm getting nervous. It's been 10 days since she mailed it; what is the usual time frame?

That could be within normal parameters. Some of my parcel things take a few days, (from NJ to CA) and sometimes it takes a week. Sometimes its a bit over a week. --one time it was over two weeks.

Remember depending on when it shipped, you have the Columbus Day holiday (no postal service) and weekends. Whytis it being held in Richmond, maybe they do a lot of parcel post all together. Parcel Post is usually the slow method.

Parcel Post has 7-10 business days to get to you, I believe.

I use it when I'm mailing locally only because sometimes it actually gets around faster than 1st class mail

Parcel Post is 7-10 business days.

However, they will sometimes hold items at the drop off facility before shipping them, until they have enough going that way.

When I did one of my exchanges on the DIS , it went parcel post from Boston to WA state. It was heled up for one day at a facility near Boston. Then it made it's way to WA within 5 days.

Email the seller and ask him to trace it.
Did you get delivery confirmation?
What is the sellers feedback like?
Did you get delivery insurance? Keep in mind, the PO will require that the item has been "in transit" for 30 days before they will do a trace for lost items.

Can you call the Richmond CA facility?

Also, USPS does not give day by day tracking the way UPS does. Richmond is either where he dropped it off or his regional facility.

You should be fine. I'd be shocked if you don't get it this afternoon or tomorrow.

Well, it's still not here. One thing I noticed was that it actually LEFT the Richmond, CA facility on Oct. 13, which was a week ago. That's better than staying there, but I wonder where it has gotten too. We have a backup for the cub scout party, but if it isn't here by next week I'm out $35 (I didn't get insurance) and no costume for DS (his backup is Buzz Lightyear, but I'm sure no other first grader is dressing up as Buzz). He really wants this Harry Potter outfit.
I guess I have a few days before I can bother the USPS about it, but if I'm really lucky it will get here tomorrow.

Parcel Post is the cheapo way to mail things with USPS. It is a low priority item. First there are the Express mail items, then Priority, then 1st class, then come bulk rate, media mail, and parcel post (can't remember which order those last 3 go)

The last three are just different classifications (lower rates) of what used to be considered 3rd/4th class mail.

Well, we're out of luck for tonight's cub scout party. Now I'm getting worried about next Friday! I don't need the $(#!$#@"(! thing after Halloween, and it won't fit him next year. It left California 8 days ago!
