Anyone know about treadmills???

This weekend while it was pouring rain outside I got stuck watching QVC. They had a manual treadmill that looked pretty good, and I was all set to buy it, until I saw the treadmill was only 17.5" wide.
The way I see it, is that instead of sitting on my butt watching TV or playing PlayStation, I'll walk while doing the same thing (I stole the video game idea from The Sports Guy from ESPN.com).
Does anyone know of any good manual treadmills out there, at a halfway decent price? Being that I'm in an apartment building, I can't exaclty get a plug-in treadmill with all the flashy lights and buttons. I worked in a sporting goods store during winter and summer breaks in college (a few years back) but we only had the big kinds.
Any ideas?

Buy USED! That way if it turns out to be something to lay your clothes on, you won't have invested as much money.

I bought our treadmill used, my husband was so against this idea. He is very fit, always has been, and couldn't understand why I thought I might slip and not use it as much from time to time. As it turns out, I am pretty good about using it at least 3 times a week, and we've had it for 5 years. Its in excellent shape, has never had to have any kind of repair, and I bought it for about $150 (sold new for over $700)!

You can try yardsales or just looking in your paper for exercise equipment. You also may want to consider a space saver treadmill, the kind you can fold up when you are done with it. We were told these kind weren't good for running but if you just want to walk it should be fine.

My dd won't let me on treadmills after I had a little accident on one last year. The thing about ate me alive. I still have lots of scars from what it did to me.

My mom has one and she loves it. She got one that didn't have an incline. Inclines kill her calf muscles.

I have a manual treadmill sitting in my garage collecting dust. I go to the gym a couple of times a week to use the electronic treadmill, I like it so much better than the manual.

But if manual is what you are set on buying, I agree with Snoopy, buy it used in case you aren't happy with it.

I've got to agree with Jason; most people I know use them as clothes hangers.

Mine holds a lot of plastic bags I use for doggie doo clean up!

For the record, it is the empty bags that are supported by the always folded/never used treadmill.

When the bags are filled outside, they are disposed of in a secure undisclosed location.

Well, it actually could be.

The treadmill is also used to hang wet dishrags on, so I suppose if I had just cleaned something particularly gruesome.....

But I don't think we have anything quite that bad!

Maybe I should move all that stuff and use the treadmill to walk on, but I would get more exercise moving and returning the dishrags and plastic bags!!

Your treadmill is in the kitchen?

I had one. My neices and nephews used it as a grocery check out conveyor belt and sent plastic food down it and a play cash register at the end.

You beat me to the punch, i do the same thing Jason but in all fairness I use it once a month, get on it 10 minutes and I feel like I did my quota.
