Anyone know about transferring points?

We are members, as are my in-laws. We are planning a trip together in October of 2005. We both have an August use year and would like to use points from each of our accounts to cover the trip. The ways that I know of to do this are

1) Have them make a reservation for some of the days, and have us reserve the remaining days. My concern with this is that we own at 2 different resorts, and I wouldn't want to end up switching resorts during our stay if there was no availability to switch at the 7 month window.

2) Have one of us transfer points to the other one so one person had enough points to cover the entire stay. This is where I get confused. We would both be using 2005 points for this stay. I know that banked and borrowed points can't be transfered. MS told me that we would be able to transfer some of our 8/05 points at the 11 month window (11/04) to make the reservation, which doesn't sound right to me.

Anyone have any experience here? I ended up up more confused after I called MS.

I am not sure of the time frame, but that is correct. You should be able to transfer those points. I believe once Aug. comes and you get your 2004 points you will be able to transfer your 2005 points.

I did a transfer to a friend to make reservations together just like you are planning. We transferred Aug. 2004 points(which has happened yet) in their Aug. 2004 use year back in March or April. I don't remember which.

Just remember if you have two different resorts, when you transfer points they stay with the home resort. ie. If you have OKW points and transfer them to a owner at HH points they will stay OKW points. Therefore you can not make reservations at 11 month window. Now I have heard things on the board here that Disney's system can't tell so you might be OK.

Remember that if you transfer points to them those points can be banked. I am telling you this because you can transfer Aug. 2004 points(if you are not using them) and they can bank them for use on your trip.

That pretty much explains it! So unless the "glitch" works in our favor and the system does not recognize the home resort, it would be the same as making two reservations at two different resorts anyway. At least now I know how it works. Thanks for the help!
