I am considering signing up with audible.com. I don't really listen to music but am interested in some shows that can be heard on satellite radio only, which I can get on audible. Does anyone have any experience with Audible. What do you like and dislike, would you recommend it. Any other information you have would be greatly appreciated.

When I bought my Zune, it came with a free trial of Audible. I was able to get 10 audiobooks for free. I really like them, but it takes great commitment to listen to them! One book was 14 hours total, and even with commuting, it took a while to get through.

Once my trial was over, I did cancel my membership, just because I didn't think I'd use it as much as I needed to to make my subscription be worth it to me. They were really nice about it and I haven't been bombarded with emails requesting me to return to them.

I didn't get any shows, but the book titles available were impressive. There was a lot of current bestsellers as well as older selections. There were also bridged and unabridged versions listed.

If I were more into listening to books, I think it would be a good choice.

I belonged for about a year. I had the cheapest membership (one credit per month). I loved it, but I have so many hours of books to listen to now that I canceled it. I like to listen to books on the way to and from work, so this is great. They do make it kind of a pain to quit (they try to talk yo into staying, etc), but all in all they were good about it. That's the only thing I'd warn you about. You also have to call to quit, you can't do it online (at least I couldn't find a way)

I love Audible
I have the biggest membership -platinum I think it is called
Anyway I buy a ton of credits at once so it works out to be about 10 dollars a book.

Audible periodically runs specials where you can get certain books really cheap or 3 books for two credits.

Occasionally I buy something I hate and that is a little frustrating -but overall it really works for me.

If you are unsure about a book or program -see if you can find a review for it somewhere else. I look up books on amazon too -especially if I am unfamiliar with it that way I don't waste a credit

Also there are samples of the book you can listen to- I highly recommend that -sometimes a good book is killed by a narrator you just can't stand.
Sometimes it is cheaper to buy the book instead of using credits. So if a book is marked down below ten dollars I don't use my credits- I just pay for it.

I also listen to podcasts -they are free and listen to lots of PBS and BBC programs that way.
I hope this helps

I have the lowest tier membership and love it. I listen as I commute, as I clean house, etc. I still prefer to read a book the old fashioned way but don't have a lot of time to do that anymore. This is a good compromise for me.

You can cancel online but they kind of bury the link. My mom canceled her's online (because like a previous poster she has a bunch stacked up that she hasn't gotten around to listening to.)

I joined 2 years ago when amazon had a promo where you could get $100 off of an ipod when signings up. I enjoyed the membership and canceled a little after a year.

They are still doing the offer on certain ipod models

And have been for years. I love it. And now that I have a Kindle, I can download my books onto it. I have all the Nora Roberts books i could get. I'll be renewing in March.
Nancy :thumbsup2
