My friend went to the dentist today for root canal treatment. During the procedure the dentist stopped and said she wasn't happy and wanted to take an x-ray. After the x-ray she told my friend a piece of equipment was stuck in her gum (right up the canal).

Dentist lady tried unsuccessfully to get it out so she stuck a bit of cotton wool in and covered with a dressing and said to come back in 3 weeks. If she can't get it out then she will be referred to the hospital which could take 5 months!!!

Obviously my friend is concerned ( we tried to make her feel better by chasing her with a magnet and telling her to avoid lightning ).

Joking aside is anyone here a dentist? Is it safe to have this foreign object in her mouth for so long?

Oh my......Can't help, but your poor friend. :(

Stop chasing her though :)

We did stop chasing her Kaylee, the magnet wasn't strong enough.

Seriously though, I'm worried about her. I don't think it should be there for so long.

That sounds horrific! Maybe she should contact another dentist locally on Monday and get a second opinion?

She phoned NHS Direct today Netty and they said A&E won't touch it, it will have to be the Dental Hospital. She's going to phone dentist on Monday and demand to be seen, the dentist that got the instrument stuck is on holiday now for 2 weeks so she will see someone else.

Most A&E's have an emergency dental surgery, to deall with people outside of dentist surgery hours.
