We're doing a short 4 day trip in less than a month. We're staying at POP, spending my b-day at MK, spending our arrival day at DTD and getting settled, and our last day breakfast at Boma and then home. We have one free day that we currently have planned to go to Cocoa Beach and come back for a 6:50PM Ohana dinner. Now that I was just thinking, I wouldn't be at all opposed to just hanging out at the resort. But would that get boring? We could sleep in, eat a leisurely b-fast, check-out the resort, swim, use our free mini-golf pass, and then go eat. I'll be 5 mos. pregnant so going at it in a slow relaxing way is more and more appealing to me!!! Just wondering how many of you do or have done this and also, any suggestions for making the most out of a day at the resort!

IMHO---I like your idea of staying around POP and having a more relaxing day.
POP has 3 pools that you could check out . You could walk around the lake and take in "Memory Lane" and read the signs about each decade and also look at all the big icons at each building.
You could go and play mini-golf or go check out all the deluxe resorts (if you haven't already done so.)
Relax and have a "Magical" time!:wizard:

I myself can't imagine going to WDW and not going to a park. On the other hand, I have always wanted to go to WDW and stay long enough to enjoy 1 or 2 days just enjoying the resort and/or visiting other resorts. It sounds like you have a pretty full schedule for the 4 days you are there. I think being pregnant is a good excuse to just sit back and enjoy the scenery. :) Congratulations on your pregnancy.

We plan an extra day for our vacation just to spend at the resort. We call it the "mom and dad" day. We sleep in, have a late breakfast, head out to the pool, come back in and take a nap, then go somewhere fun for dinner. It is relaxing and we love the resorts so much....it is totally worth it for us:goodvibes

Last summer, we went to Disney for two weeks - and it was WONDERFUL!!! Because we were leaving on a Sunday to come home (and Monday we would have to go back to work), I didn't schedule anything at all for our last day (Saturday).

We were staying at the Boardwalk; we slept in, and spent the day at the pool! My DD must have gone down that slide 100 times! We even ate some lunch poolside! That night, we got dressed and went to dinner at the Yatchsman Steakhouse. We got a good night sleep, and made the long drive home the next day! It was such a relaxing end to a busy vacation!

We just got back from another two weeks at Disney. We had two "down" days - one of the days we slept in, had a late breakfast of Tonga Toast!, and did some shopping at DTD. Then spent the afternoon poolside! On our other "down" day, we did the horseback riding, had a nice lunch, and spent the afternoon at the hotel - swimming! It was really nice!

Enjoy your off day - and have a great vacation!!!!

We were at CSR in June and did a day at the resort. Went swimming all afternoon, played at the Dig Site. Came back to the room and napped. Went to dinner at the Pepper Market and had ice-cream at night and sat outside eating it plus a Corona for Mom. There was a small alligator in the lake at CSR that was swimming around next to the Esplanade area we were sitting at eating ice-cream and that captivated the kids for a long time. Then went inside and checked out the gift shop. They have a castle with characters set up at a small table at gift shop in CSR and my DS3 sat for a long time and played with it.

It was a great day!

On our WDW trip in March, we spent six days at Pop and never set foot in a park. We slept in, enjoyed leisurely meals, swam in the pool, and just wandered around the world and enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we've had in years.

We usually plan one day to enjoy the pool. In the eve we may go to downtown disney.

Even on our short trips (4 days), we always enjoy a day or two at the resort..if you go once or twice a year, I don't see any need to do "commando style"! No kids involved, tho, so that might be why!!:lmao:
Magic2000, I'm thinking about doing the horseback riding. Tell me if it was enjoyable, please. The scenery, was it nice on the ride?

We just came back from a two week vacation at the Yacht Club and did two "resort days". One day we planned - kids went on the Albatross Cruise so they were able to sleep late (relatively late for us since we are almost always at a park at opening), then we spent the day at the pool, napped and went to Chef Mickey's for dinner. The second down day wasn't planned - I could just tell the kids were wiped out. Instead of and AM EMH at MGM as we planned we just let the kids sleep in, then we walked over to the Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast and spent the day at the pool. We had dinner that night at Biergarten. Those were very relaxing days and the kids had a ball spending the days at SAB and doing all the new "kid activities".

Grannieminnie - the horseback riding is really very nice and relaxing. It is at Fort Wilderness, and the path goes through the woods. You could see some of the wilderness homes. We saw quite a few deer and a rabbit!

We did the 10:30 am ride (there are several throughout the day). It costs about $40/person and lasts about an hour. We did it last summer, and my DD really enjoyed it and wanted to do it again. This summer, I brought my nieces too!

Enjoy!

Whenever we go for more than 4 nights we have at least one free day when we hang around the resort, visit other resorts etc. It is so nice - esp when we plan it in the middle of the trip, so we have a day off from early mornings at the parks.

It is not only relaxing, but makes it seem the vacation is longer.

Enjoy!

A down day for us is usually sleeping in and then having breakfast and heading off to DTD for shopping. We had one forced upon us in 2005 when Hurricane Wilma hit. But since we knew about it in advance we were prepared to stay in the room for as long as 3 days, if need be. But our scheduled day that trip was the day we had the Mickey's Magical Milestone tour at 9 AM. After the tour we hung around MK for awhile then went back to the room for a nap since we were going to MNSSHP in the evening.

We did that for AKL and I walked down every corridor of that resort and it was pretty awesome to see all the little trinkets and info about Africa and the different views you have of the animals, it was pretty cool.

Another vote for a resort day. We did a 4 day trip and spent the arrival day at DTD, one day at the MK, and one day at the resort. Like others have said, we slept in, laid by the pool, took in all the sights and we did both Fantasia and Winter/Summerland mini-golf. (It's half off the second course if you do both in one day). It was a great, relaxing day.

I am going in august and I planned on a day at the resort also. We will relax go mini golfing, go to the spa, and just do nothing.

We actually enjoy a lot of down time at our resort. My daughters enjoy the parks, but Disney to us is also relaxing around our resort at the pool and eating dinner with the characters at night.

I always try to have atleast one day that is my down-day, on that day I like to hang around our resort and swim, check out the grounds (great for picture taking oppurtunities), play tennis, etc. If I do everything I want at my own pace and I'm feeling a little bored I just hop on a bus and go check out other resorts (I don't worry about the ride times, as I'm taking it easy). At the other resorts I love to look around in their gift shops and walk around the grounds to take pictures of see if it's a place I might be interested in staying upon another visit.

We always like to plan a down day at the resort, but by the time we get to Disney somehow we always are out at the parks. This time we did plan for a down day on Sat 'cause we will be at MNSSHP on Friday until midnight. We even booked a cabana for the morning to relax in!:beach:
