anyone hired intermediate suv

we are looking at this from dollar and just wondered how big it was? we are going to have 4 adults and a bit of luggage as its a wedding

We got the Standard SUV Jeep Grand Cherokee (or similar) In Vegas last Oct, and got car below, Dodge Nitro (Before and After trip to very dusty Grand Canyon) If its bigger than this then its more than adequate for you. Great car.

The Premium sized Chrysler Pacifica is also a good car, pretty big boot and quite sporty too.

I don't have any photos but we had 3 adults, 2 suitcases and 2 sets of golf clubs in our SUV and there was plenty of room.

I've got an intermediate SUV booked for our May trip - just the 3 of us and we travel quite light. Not sure I'd book one for 4 adults and wedding luggage tho'...

thanks for all your help, i have booked this via virgin but its on request only so maynot get it. on the jeep website the liberty looks huge so i think it will be big enough for our cases. we do ahve another family travelling with their car so we have some space in that one as well if needed

Hey Orangetiggs,

We have a compact booked for our Christmas trip (as we did last summer). We had a PT Cruiser then. I was interested in having an SUV as it was Christmas etc and phoned Virgin.

When I enquired about SUV's they told me the options were an Hummer, an Escalade or a Jaguar. The Hummer was the smallest and was going to be over £1000 more.

Can you tell me how I should encourage Virgin to give me a price for a more "ordinary" SUV like the Jeep Liberty that is on the Dollar site?

the code you want is IS and that is an intermediate suv it in the new preview brochure for next year, we were first givent the hummer but i tolf the travel agent to mention the code and it was sorted.

BTW the Liberty is smaller than the Cherokee but not by much. I have in the past booked a premium car and upgraded to SUV upon arrival at the Dollar desk and there has never been a problem.

I love the Pacifa but sadly Dollar are phasing them out - replaced by the Chrysler 300 which has a small boot by comparison.

When we were there at Xmas was asked for the Pacifica and were told there wouldn't be one but clerk managed to find one for us although I suspect by our next trip they'll be all gone so I've gone for the Full size SUV with Alamo as I thought the Liberty boot space looked less than the Pacifica - which would cause us a problem on our return to the airport.

Hi again. I am looking for more advice. I phoned Virgin to change the car but the person I dealt with said I could not book the Intermediate SUV as this was in the Preview brochure but was not available this year.

I tried to press the point but he said that it was not possible.

I am not convinced - I never feel sure that the Virgin call centre personnel are fully clued up.

i'm booked through a travel agent who called them, we were on the phone for ages trying to sort it out, its on request at the moment so there is a chance we cant have it but they didnt have a problem once they found it. dollar offer it so there should not be a problem with booking it.

We rented the Chrysler Pacifica from Alamo in Tampa in January. Was fine for five adults with only a small amount of luggage.
