We are trying to beautify our house a little and none of our bedroom closets have doors. We don't want to spend a lot of money because we are planning on tearing our house down in a few years anyway.

Do you use a curtain as a closet door? If so, is it the same fabric as your window curtains or is it a fabric that is wall colored so it blends in?

I would love to have as much input as possible and even photos if you have some to share.

TIA!

I use a curtain to close off my pantery . I also made it match the kitchen. I used the Walmart one dollar fabric with glue. total cost for the room 5$ and it looks great!

I just put up a curtain for DD's bedroom closet yesterday! They had bypass doors on the closet and I hated them...you had to constantly slide the doors back and forth to get stuff out of the closet. I took the doors down this weekend and went to Target to look for curtains yesterday. I couldn't find plain white curtains that weren't very sheer, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I bought a queen size flat sheet instead. I sewed a pocket along one edge and hung it from a shower curtain rod (tension). I didn't want to get a matching color yet, because we are going to paint he room soon. After we decide on a color and get window curtains, I may redo the closet curtain to match, but for now the white looks good. Let me take a picture so you can see.

My DD's closet closes with an old beadspread I cut in two (and sewed into two panels) I just stapled it to the wall. It looks great and her valences are made from the shams that went with the bedspread.

 In one of my rooms, I used a shower curtain on a spring rod. I used this kind of rod so I could put it inside the closet opening as close to the front as I could instead of mounting the curtain hooks on the outside of the closet. I found pretty shower curtain hooks in a daisy alternating with leaf pattern which perfectly matches the bedspread. The trim around the opening is white and so is the linen curtain. Sorry I don't have a picture, but I think it looks nice.

Great replies!

I should have also asked if everyone is mounting the rod on the outside or using spring rods liked LetsgoDisney?

I use the bamboo roller type blinds for my laundry area. It use to have folding doors that were always falling down so I just put these up and have been very happy with them.

I went to Lowes and got a very long Decrotive Curtain rod and used that above the closet in my daughter's room. It turned out beautifull and she can slide it back and forth to get it out of her way when she needs to. I used the same curtain panels that I have on her windows so it just looks like she has two big sets of windows. I love the way it turned out.

We have curtains on our bedroom closet and they work out great. We live in an apartment and had metal doors which were both ugly and really annoying to open and close!

We mounted a curtain rod on the outside above the opening so as to cover the whole opening (the spring rod idea didn't look right because our curtains had big loops at the top). We used the same curtains that are in the room. The room is blue and the curtains are white with embroidered white flowers. We needed something to break up the wall and it would have been almost impossible to get curtains in the same color as the wall.

We have curtains on our bathroom closet. There were sliding doors when we moved in and they were a) ugly as sin and b) made it impossible to get into the middle section of the closet. So we took the doors down and hung white curtains. We didn't have a rod so we hung them on wire. I can slide them from side to side giving me full access to the closet. I happened to have the curtains from college, so it worked out to be a free upgrade! Since our bathroom is avocado paneling (UGH), the white curtains really make the room a lot brighter. Someday, I'll paint the bathroom, but it's that moisture resistant wallboard stuff, in great condition, and will require a lot of prep work to get paint to stick. The tub's avocado, too. My bathroom is so 1976!

I have used a sheet in the past. The top is already turned and hemmed for the rod.

I do this a lot! They are so handy and easy to put up. My DD currently has pink curtains that match her window over her closet and she loves it much more than the doors that used to be on there. I am getting ready to take down DS closet doors and do the same thing with some camo sheets.

I used fabric panels for our dd's closet, I loved it! it made the room seems more girlie...the color went great with the room (lilac) and just softened everything. it was great for our dd, as she had easier access to everything and with the vesla wheeled storage boxes we got at ikea, it made clean up every easier. she easily rolled her boxes in and out...again i loved it.

Our bedroom is narrow but long so when we got the king size bed we had to take down the closet door since it was a regular door and it swung out (would have hit the bed) so since I decorated our room in an ocean motif I found a cool beaded (more like real thin bamboo) type curtain. It also has a beach scene painted on it.

There are really nice lacy curtain panels at IKEA, I got 2 panels for $8 and I hung these up in front of my closet area, since it has no doors. The two pannels cover a 5 foot closet door area very nicely. They are about 8 feet long, and they are made of a material that you can simply cut to length, no hemming required. I think they have a lot of other reasonable curtain options there too. Deffinately worth looking into.

I use a curtain for my daughters closet door. It works well for her.

I don't have any curtains on my closets but I see it all the time on the design shows and it looks great.

finally got into photobucket to post some pics....

simple and plain....I'm sure it would look much nicer if I could match the window curtains or bedding. Once the room is painted, I will probably redo the closet curtain to match or at least have some pattern or design to it. I used a shower curtain rod hung inside the door frame.

I love it! You ladies are great! I went this morning and bought curtains for our window that match our new comforter set, along with two decorative rods for the window and closet. I haven't yet decided if I am going to spend the money on matching curtains for the closet ($20 per panel) or just use plain white curtains (much cheaper). We have already spent too much money on a new bed and mattress. But we will finally have a really comfy bed (and it's king size to boot)!

Thank you for all the replies and especially the photos!
