Anyone Here take Camcorders?

My family does. My dad video tapes EVERYTHING! Even when we are just in our hotel room lounging around... we get really sick of it, but it's fun to watch! Good times...good times...

OK, and what do you do to protect the camcorder during water rides... (soak zones)???

Is it possibel to buy special "plastic-envelopes" for camcorders? Is it enough just to put the camcorder in the backpack?

The Lst Twice, I have took 2 different Sony MiniDV camcorders, which I used to tape about 10 hours of footage in the two weeks we were there, but have never experienced the humidity problem, I always take my digital camera too, and come back with over 100 photos.

This time I have a Sony DVD camcorder to take, and am dying to try it out! I am hoping after reading this I dont have humidity prolems with that, but I have faith in it

I have a JVC mini DV camcorder and I bring it with me!! We take hours of footage and then edit on the PC using Pinnacle studio when we get home - this is quick and really easy to do - then transfer it to dvd!! I always add disney music etc as I think it makes home videos a bit more watchable!!!

We always take our. We've bought new ones over the years, every time they come out with a smaller model we buy one! Yes it can be a pain, but the memories are priceless.

For all of you who do bring your video cameras, I have a polite request - please consider those around you. While I'm sure all of us DISers are every so considerate, I did have a bad experience during our last trip. We were riding on PotC, and the dad ahead of us had a video camera. Unfortunately, he was narrating the entire trip, even getting "reaction shots" of his two small children - he was loud enough to drown out the attraction narration at some points. In addition, he had a light on - PotC is dark; the overhead CMs even had to "yell" at him to turn it off, which he did - for a minute, then he turned it back on.

Well I say if you've got one BRING IT! We taped so much of our trip!! So many magical moments caught on tape... priceless! It really wasn't as much of a bother as I thought it would be.

Suivi, I dont know if you can find something like this at your local camera store but I've heard these are good for waterproof storage of your camera in your backpack.

Actually, I've always just stuck our digital in a Ziplock freezer bag. A much cheaper option!

We always take our camcorder. We video tape and I also let my son (11y/o) tape things from his perspective. We get all of our tapes together and watch them the day we come home. We also will get all of our previous tapes and watch them for 2 or 3 weeks before our trip to get us in the Disney mood. Some times my son will watch them in the car on the way to Disney.

We also take both a digital and a camcorder, you just can't capture the narration of your children on a digital camera especially when they meet characters or see something for the very first time.
One priceless moment we have on film is our then 5yo ds singing along to Shania Twain's Man I Feel Like A Woman playing on the radio in the car on the way back to the villa after a day in the parks, his very professional microphone was a plastic Diet Coke bottle Had we not had the camcorder only myself as i was driving and our eldest dd would have seen him because dh and youngest dd were fast asleep!

Well, we just broke down and purchased both a palm-sized digital camera and a palm-sized video camera for our first trip with DD4. Easily justifiable purchases since I'm sure we'll have MANY first time moments that we will want to relive again and again...and again! We also purchased the greatest "little" backpack (the kind bikers use) at Dick's Sporting Goods where EVERYTHING will fit. (We're not planning on taking TOO many things into the parks...necessary cards, extra tapes, batteries, bathing suit for DD, autograph book, suncreen, etc.) It even has a waterproof storage compartment on the inside that will accomodate both the digital camera and camcorder. About $40! Now I feel like we'll really take it out and use it!

Not anymore. DH dropped ours on our very first day this last trip. We spent $400 on it- it was a mini DV JVC and so nice! He tripped at AK and it went flying. It kind of ruined the whole trip for him because he could not get over it. He just felt so bad and he spent the whole week berating himself about it.

I would love to take a camcorder to Walt Disney World. Walmart has them on sale for $227.00 for a JVC. With that said do you think they're more of a nusance or do you find they're welll worth the money. You do capture all the memories.....

Yes we do take our camcorder. In fact, this recent trip I got to try out our new camcorder. It's a Panasonic digital palm camcorder. It records right onto a DVD. I had been wanting this for quite some time and my husband decided that because we were doing a special family trip, including the grandkids, we had better have a nice camcorder. It's about the size of my Kodak digital camera. He took the stills and I used the camcorder. We have the nicest video of this special trip! I got a small camera bag at LL Bean and they both fit into it. Truly a great investment! BTW, I didn't have any problems with humidity etc. It even took great video in the Lion King Show at Animal Kingdom! Oh yes, it takes stills too! I highly recommend it!

Just back from WDW and we took our new digital palmcorder. Dh had been against it at first, then said OK but I would have to carry it....

In the end he carried it and I strapped the digital camera to my fanny pack strap. We had 10 Disney days and 3 Universal days-worth of tickets, and took the camera to each park ONCE only - essential to capture things like Character meals, favourite shows (we saw Lion KIng twice and second time DH videoed the whole thing!) and happy kids faces (especially as younger DS 5 is a bit tempermental, and often refuses to approach characters or smile if he's not in the mood for it )

We also used it to record a video diary in different areas of the hotels and parks

All I have to do now is transfer the footage over and make DVDs for the grannies!

I take to camcorder & DF takes the digital camera. I wouldnt be without either of them!

I love both the photograph albums we have & the dvd's I make using Pinnacle studio's.

Couldnt imagine a trip anywhere, let alone WDW without them.

We received a wonderful compact video camera before our wedding and we took it on our honeymoon in May 2004...we used it quite a few times in WDW. It was worth it. DH filmed while we were on Test Track. The whole time I thought he was filming the ride, but he was actually filming me and my wacky reactions to the ride. It is so funny. Everytime we show it to friends are family, they go hysterical. It is one of those things that we are so glad we have on video. We also filmed some parades and fireworks and it is so wonderful to watch when you need a disney fix.
I say if it is small enough and you have a good case to protect it, take it-you would be surprised what you capture.

That is really rude of that guy-using his light and talking. However it works the other way as well. I like to videotape attractions and I've had people talk as loud as possible while I'm filming. And no, I don't narrate or use my external light on rides. Nothing like hearing some stranger's comments through an entire ride's soundtrack. I guess the key is to be considerate of others and keep your voice down. Talking more than a whisper during rides is especially inconsiderate to those who are first-timers on the attraction.
