Hi Everyone ! For those who do NOT know about this .... WebTv is internet and e-mail on your TV set. It does Not have a hard drive, therefore you don't have to worry about it getting a computer virus, although you need to worry about passing one on in an e-mail. Web TV does a lot less than a regular computer, such as ... I can get The DIS boards, but I cannot get The DIS Blog. I can sit in my recliner, and look at internet pages on my 22 inch TV set. I can do an e-mail on my wireless keyboard, with NO mouse at all. I can also scan pages of internet with a much smaller remote, that looks just like an ordinary remote. We have had this set-up for over 8 years, and BASICALLY .... we still love it. The problem comes in when so many OTHER web sites "upgrade" and now my simple Web Tv no longer can get it.

The WebTv company was bought out by Microsoft many years ago, and they renamed it " MSN TV ". NOW, they are no longer manufacturing these units.

It really looks like it may become obsolete, and may be dropped. It is hard to tell right now. The service now has many problems, and they don't seem to be solving the problems.

So ...... Is anyone here still using WebTV ( MSN TV ), and how is your service?

One of my elderly sorority sisters uses it. I was shocked that it was still around.

My goodness. I have not thought about WebTV in ages!! I had it when I met my husband on Match.com. 11 years ago! ;) I got rid of it that same year when I moved in with him and he had a desktop. Now, I use my laptop.

I liked my WebTV!! :thumbsup2

My FIL still has his...he seems to have some phobia about computers with windows :confused3. I tried to use it a few years ago while I was up there and it took FOREVER to load something. I think that he is even understanding what he has is outdated because he was asking about cable internet. We told him to go out and get a laptop if he wants speed and hook it up to the cable service.

I remember those. I thought they were a neat gadget that would have been perfect for use in the bedroom. I never did get one. I did not think they could still be used today.

You can get Verizon DSL for $19.5 a month, whereas MSN TV costs 21.95 a month. Really, you are missing almost everything the Internet has to offer.

Web TV was my first experience on the internet. I remember the chat rooms had these games I used to play. This was probably back in 1999. I used it for about a year and sold it cheaply to a friend's mother. She used it up until a year or so ago.

I didn't realize it was still around. I used it once in a hotel years ago. It was horrible, although it may have just been the equipment in the room. We asked for a replacement keyboard because it was nearly impossible to navigate. The replacement worked the same way. I got so frustrated that I gave up.

We are still using our Web Tv. We have a mix of the Web Tv network, and Verizon
Road Runner.

I still really love the idea of looking at the internet on my 22 inch TV, from the living room recliner.

BUT .... It cannot do any of those forwarded e-mails that use Power Point, or Flash.

We are considering getting a larger size laptop
and using it for things that the simple Web Tv cannot do.

This way .... IF .... WebTv goes totally out of business, we will already be set up and running with the Laptop.

Webtv has been obsolete for a LONG time. Time to move on! You can connect a regular pc to a tv screen if that is the part you like. You can get dsl in my area for 14.95 a month if you get the 768k, and obviously you would not care about speed if you are using webtv.

It always shocks me that people pay for this WebTV, and that some people still pay 25 bucks a month to aol for dial up, in an effort to avoid change. Eventually you will have to change when they stop offering it. In the meantime you are overpaying.

There's no way I'd be able to read much on a 22inch TV by sitting in a recliner. I'd be all squinty and blind after a few minutes.

I didn't know WebTV still existed. That is how we started, about 12 years ago. Oh the late nights chatting and surfing. I would spend hours and basically all I looked up was Disney for some odd reason. It was then that I discovered the DIS and I've been hanging around since. We've had hand-me-down and brand new PC's over the years - from Win98, XP, Vista and now a new laptop with Win7.
