Anyone here retire early?

I am on track to retire in 6 1/2 years....2 months after I turn 50. At my job you can retire with 20 years and 50 years old...I will have 28 years and be 50 so I am OUT OF THERE! I am fully covered by the company health insurance wise once I retire too...only thing I will loose is dental but medical and perscription coverage will be the same as I have now...I am sure I will work something part time even after I retire though because I can't just sit home...I can't go anyplace yet since my daughter will only be 12 when I retire and I would never make her switch schools.

I retired at 52 and moved to Florida.

Health insurance is an issue, but it is possible depending on what you are willing to do. I currently cover myself and DD (age 18) through Blue Cross/Blue Shield. We have a PPO. I pay $564 a month. Our deductible is $1000 a piece. I look at the insurance as being there for major issues. There is something to keep in mind. Many people put off retirement because of the health insurance issue. In some cases, they've done themselves a disservice. If you wait to retire and you develop some type of medical condition, it makes it hard to get insurance at an affordable price. Also, many insurance companies will not cover pre-existing conditions when you take out an individual policy.

I am taking the "early retirement" offer from GM this July. I have 28 years with GM and just turned 50. I get my full pension and health benifits that I currently have. My wife will have her 30 years in teaching next May(2007) She will be 50 also when she retires.

We just built a house in Vero Beach,Fl about 4 months ago. So we will be moving permanently to Vero Beach, from Ohio, real soon. We plan on enjoying life and traveling quite a bit while we are healthy and young enough to enjoy "retirement"
