Anyone here live in the drought stricken areas of Texas?

I've seen the photos of Lake Travis - in the Austin area.. Yikes!

But that's not the reason for this thread.. Sunday night I had the Weather Channel on, but the volume was way down low and my crew was in here saying goodbye before they headed home..

They were showing a segment about snakes - loads and loads of them - that are supposedly all over the place because of the drought conditions.. They showed some kind of town/county/state worker walking around with 2 buckets and a special tool to pick up these snakes..

Is this really happening down there? Are these poisonous snakes? If so, what kind are they? Are they in people's yards - or just lots of them in the woods, around the dried up lakes and streams, etc.?

I'm terrified of snakes!

I live right in the middle of it. South-central Texas. Caused us foundation problems ($5000). Our mayor has called for a community-wide prayer service this Thursday.

As far as snakes, I haven't heard of any major problems.

What kind of foundation problems?

I have a pen pal (yes - a pen pal - LOL) that I have been writing to for well over 30 years now that lives in Austin and I'm waiting to hear back from her now as to what kind of problems she has encountered..

Wish I could send you all the never-ending rain that we've been having up here..

Most homes here are built on a concrete foundation. When the soil dries up, the ground (and the house's foundation) shift, crack, etc. The back end of our house (master bedroom & bath) had dropped about two inches. We noticed cracks in the ceilings & walls. Some of our doors wouldn't shut properly.

We got three estimates. First company said $20,000 , second one said, "pray for rain," and the third guy said $5000. We settled on #3.

This drought is (so far) the worst since the 1950's.

It's been fixed for several months now. Everything went back together nicely. Thanks for your concern.
