Anyone heard of "Clean Up Day" as a Gift?

While I find this extremely odd, I think it is also a nice gesture from friends to a single mom. I definitely wouldn't send a cleaning person, that would be awkward, in my opinion. I would guess that the cleaning is also supposed to be a social gathering. I think I would skip the first dinner, go to the cleaning with a small housewarming-like gift such as a Yankee candle, and go to the second dinner.

If a bunch of people showed up at my house and said they were there to help me cleanup my yard, I'd think it was a godsend! But if it were for the interior of my house, there's no way I'd want that at all. Nobody needs to unearth the clutter I've so carefully concealed from the casual observer!

I wasn't going to comment on this because my thought is so different from everyone elses but.......

I'm a single mom. I work 2 jobs. My house doesn't really need the cleaning, dusting, etc type of cleaning, but I sure could use some help around the house. Like painting the ceilings. I mean I've paited the walls, but boy would it be nice to help with the ceilings. I'm not a great decorator, would love others thoughs of how to turn my daughters room into a more appropriate theme for her age now. Yard work would be a pure blessing.

I think its a great idea. Times are tough. I would rather have help then a gift any day.

As a single mom, I would love it if my friends pitched in and bought me a gift certificate for a maid service. Then I could schedule it...and decide what I want it done and when I want it done.

If it were a surprise...they showed up at my house with buckets and cleaning supplies...I would tell them directly that, while the thought was nice, it is the rudest gift I've ever heard of! I would not want my friends going through my closets and drawers. One of my boys forever has Legos in the livingroom...having them picked up and put away, only to have to search for them later...would be a waste of time for everyone involved. This gift would more than annoy me. Honestly, I'd speak my mind, then close and lock the door.

This is one gift that could backfire big time!

Yes, this. I would love maid service, even just once. I'd feel really awkward, on the other hand, if somebody I know came in and cleaned my house, even as a gift.
