Marvel will change eventually due to licensing problems, but the rumour that Transformers is coming came out due to Spielberg getting confused. Someone asked him if Transformers was coming to Universal Studios, he said in the future but apparently this turned out to be a misquote or confusion on his behalf. ThemeParkInsider recently posted an interview with the head of Universal Creative who appeared to also agree that Transformers isn't coming to the East coast.

Harry Potter Phase II is apparently going to be announced next week along with the announcement that Harry Potter is going to Hollywood!

That Hard Rock is a new one on me, but I think they have a casino in Tampa? So this is interesting!

The removal of Jaws has indeed sparked up rumours that Amity will be used as a train station for the Hogwarts Express to connect perhaps Diagon Alley to Hogsmead at IOA. However, looking at the map they'd either have to tear down all the backstage lots for the employees or have a tiny space to work with. Expensive! Personally I really hope this doesn't happen. As a major IOA fan, the rest of the park is getting a bit neglected due to Potter Mania and I don't want this to spread to Universal.

There are rumours floating around of Lord of the Rings coming into the park and I might even guess Madagascar, a similar ride to the one that has just been built in Singapore.

Not really licensing problems, Disney now own Marvel.

Yes, but in the sale, US maintained the license giving them geographical rights to the Marvel identity. It's therefore very unlikely that Marvel will be leaving IOA for a long time.

In fact, when Disney bought Marvel, they wound up in a whole bunch of tape that basically prevented them from doing much of anything for a considerable period of time because various parts of Marvel are licensed out to different groups for set periods of time.

Tampa has 3 gambling facilities consisting of Horse track, dog track and a casino. Out of 36 cities in Florida with legalized gambling, Tampa ranks number 4 in number of gambling facilities. In addition to Tampa's state regulated casinos, Tampa also has one Indian casino, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa.

The newly expanded seminole Hard Rock casino opens 24/7/365 and is located at 223 North Orient Rd Tampa. With nearly 190,000 square-feet of playing ground, 4,100 slot machines, over 90 table games, featuring Blackjack, Mini and Midi Baccarat, 3-Card Poker and 50 tables of live high stake poker action. They also have High Limit Gaming for the High Rollers.

If they match this in Orlando I would love to work there. :yay:

Yes, they have the rights to the theme park rides, especially on the eastern seaboard, but consider this, how happy are Universal likely to be selling and enforcing Disney merchandise and imagery in a Universal theme park? Doesn't make any sense. This is where the story, told to me by an Universal employee in October has come from.

When we were there in October I recall seeing on the news about various areas trying to get legalised gambling to boost revenue.

It doesn't work like that. When Universal bought the license, they also bought the right to sell merchandise for a profit, although they have to pay royalties to the parent company - whether that be Marvel, Disney or any other business who owns the characters. Otherwise why would they bother to market these products, even if Marvel was still Marvel and not part of Disney? Universal have always and will continue to make a decent chunk of money from Marvel merchandise. Also how many people know that Marvel is owned by Disney? As the license stands, Disney aren't allowed to use Marvel on their WDW property, so it's unlikely people will ever make the connection. Ditto Japan and Spidey.

The important thing to Universal is that fans of the Marvel characters will visit their theme park - and that won't change any time soon. What it does mean, however, is no expansion, no new rides and no new characters.

Universal are - arguably - seeing a higher annual footfall % increase than Disney these days anyway. I think Marvel is the least of their worries.

Wow - I wonder if they have enough room for this at the Hard Rock!

Unless it was someone from Universal Creative, I wouldn't trust it. A lot of the employees know just as much as us and their 'sources' are forums like this. However, who knows, they may well be on to something. Personally I think that the update of Spiderman pretty much guarantees the island is going nowhere for a good number of years, they have invested way too much money into it to get rid of it anytime soon.

Surely people must agree it is time for jaws to go. It has the feel of the 1970s about. It. Time to move on u think.

I don't like the fact that just because something is old it should go. Being old is not a bad thing, it's a classic.
