Anyone heard about these "rumors"?

I can see them doing a Toy Story ride, but how would it fit in Epcot? And they do have the Buzz Lightyear ride at MK. But maybe they could do it at MGM?

ITA! One of the reasons I LOVE EPCOT is that it wonderfully works independently from the Disney movies and the marketing of them (except for the character greetings--which I like). I haven't seen it, but I know that there are "Finding Nemo" characters in/around the Living Seas. . .I think that's enough movie interference for EPCOT attractions. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Disney movies (up until The Hunchback) and the other parks, but I think the Disney movies and their major marketing should be left to the other 3 parks. . . don't taint EPCOT rides and attractions with them :).

No argument from me... Same reason I don't care for the idea of a Brother Bear water ride in Canada, as was rumored a few months ago.

I heard about that, too  . Geez Louise. . .

I'm all for a water ride in Canada. . just as long as the Imagineers design it in keeping with the spirit of EPCOT--to me that means no movie marketing (as stated in previous post). Shoot, I'd like to see something in Germany just because it LOOKS like some ride should be there, but that's a whole other story ;). . .

I had never thought of this before, but now that you say it, I agree.... I wouldn't like EPCOT being overran with movie marketing schemes. Its just too different (a good different) and should stay that way!

I totally agree about not over running Epcot with movie marketing themes. I was just trying to come up with a contry that would not be a target for terroirists. Does one exist in the world? If we sanction a country then most likely we are allies and so it seems like a moot point.
Seriously, can anyone think of a country that would not be a target? How about an Antarctica pavillion. I have to say this is pretty sad. I would LOVE to see an Egyptian Pavillion with ancient exhibits.

Well, at least the first one sounds real good, here they are, copied/ [asted as I found them on the web:

 New World Showcase Pavilions - Epcot
- completion between 2004-2005

Details:
When walking through World Showcase at Epcot, one can't help but notice that there is space for a few more pavilions to dedicate to different countries around the world. Take the space in-between China and Germany for instance. There is room for another pavilion or two over there. Apparently, Disney Imagineers have also noticed this and they even took a couple nights to measure out areas for new countries. Their findings? Well, according to Disney Imagineers, they believe there is room for another 8 countries in World Showcase! EIGHT!!! Israel, Brazil, Denmark, and Spain are among the countries being rumored to be built. ...the proposed Israel pavilion, which coincidentally is the country Disney Imagineers are currently speaking with the country's government and ambassadors to host and sponsor this pavilion.

In the past, Russia, Australia, and Switzerland were among the countries that had the best shot at being added to World Showcase. But a recent article in the Orlando Sentinel was quoted as saying, "...economic and political chaos killed the Russian pavilion, and the Switzerland idea didn't clear financial hurdles. Other discussions with Australian businesses haven't been successful either."

Whoever started this "rumor" just took well-known facts and did a bit of embellishing.

Nobody "noticed" that there was room for another pavilion or two. The fact that WS has room for more countries was well known from the start. Disney itself identified at least three "Coming World Showcase" countries in its pre-opening EPCOT Center booklet.

There wasn't any need for imagineers to go out at night to measure. They have the original design spec's for Epcot and the empty pads are readily seen.

No doubt all three of thos countries have been asked -- and many more.

I like Body Wars and don't want to see it go. Put the Toy Story ride in some other park.

The last couple of trips to Disney, I didn't go over to that side of Epcot because I've done that stuff before and really didn't like it. So I'm glad there putting something new over there

I also have wanted a new country there for a while. But its going to be hard now with everything going on. If any country, get Spain in there.

You are right that every country could be considered a target for terrorists, but Israel is particularly vulnerable to that sort of activity. Israel, however, was included in the Millenium Village at EPCOT during the 2000 season that featured "Journey to Jerusalem", the pavilion's only ride which was very controversial at the time, but still peace managed to prevail, so who knows. The Arab community was also included. Others included Brazil, Switzerland, Scotland.

Spain had a temporary pavilion during the Food & Wine Festival, which I thought might remain, but it didn't.

The rumors about the countries joining World Showcase have been there since 1982, when the original preview pictorial book was released. It mentioned Spain, Israel and Russia and included Africa (which seemed the furthest along in planning). However, I think Africa wound up being represented in Animal Kingdom. I think Australia would be better suited for AK as well, just because of all the cool animals they have there.

Would like to see EPCOT add more countries after 22 years, but I think it's unlikely at this point, given the world situation.

Before they put new counties in EPCOT maybe they should improve the ones they have.

Look at some of the countries with no attractions, Italy, Germany, Morroco, Japan, Great Brittan....

Why don't they first add rides or shows to these countries?

Other than restaurants why go there???

Just my opinion.

Good point :scratchin. . .

Although I would enjoy an Israel pavilion it's too big of a risk especially the way it currently is.:(

And I think that Africa and Australia should be in AK instead of Epcot.

By the way, that Toy Story ride sounds great but I would rather see it in MGM.::yes::
