Anyone having trouble booking the free cruise?

We recently added 125 points at BLT to take advantage of the free 4 night cruise offer on Dream next year. Our available cruise dates are limited due to school and off-school commitments. I checked with Disney Cruise website and it looks categories that free cruise offers for dates that we'd in mind, for us that would be Deluxe Oceanview, are booked solid. What's our option, upgrade to the next available cabin class?

The cruse vouchers that DVD purchased are discounted and there are a limited number of cabins for each cruise. Available cabins can not be viewed online. You have to call DCL to check availability.

That's what I'm afraid of. BTW, when do you receive this cruise voucher? I haven't closed on this contract and probably will not for another 2~4 weeks.

It was after the close. The voucher lists the possible cruise dates if there is availability. Our first and second preferred dates were already booked. You can pay for a cabin upgrade but the level of upgrade is dependent on how many are in your party.

Thanks Bill for all the info. So what are your plans now? Since your first 2 prefer dates are not available, are you going to upgrade or cruise off season so as to not waste your cruise voucher? I believe you have to take the cruise by Nov. next year.

I booked the last free cruise and because of these boards I knew the dates before taking the free cruise as an option when adding on. I saw that holidays and summer were not included. By the time I added on there was only a 3 month window left to book (on the wonder). I had from Sept. 2010 to early Dec. 2010. I wanted to avoid hurricane season the best I could, so did book early Nov. It took a few weeks before I got the voucher and you can't call and book until you get it. You may be able to get the voucher number from your guide before they mail it out. In addition to getting the cat. 9 free cruise, I booked 2 more cabins at that level, so was able to get 3 cat. 9 cabins. Sorry, I can't help more. Hopefully you can upgrade or miss school. I think your hands are tied until you get that voucher.

If you know that your times are limited, I don't know if I would take the cruise as my incentive. If you find that you can't book a time you can go and end up having to upgrade (if that is allowed), you have defeated the purpose of getting it as an option, unless you were planning to cruise anyway.

We contemplated the same thing last year when we added on. Even though the cruise, dollars wise, seemed like a better deal, it wasn't because there was only one cruise we could do.

Since that was too risky, and we wouldn't be going if it weren't for the incentive, we just took the $$'s off.

We are sailing in early Dec this year. Works out OK for us because December is one of our yearly vacations at WDW anyway.

Keep in mind that DVD is booking the DCL dates that are not popular and are projected to have unsold staterooms. That's how they got them at a deep discount discount. As a result, there is limited availability and the dates are not guaranteed until actually booked with DCL.
