Anyone having second thoughts about BLT?

We were totally on the bandwagon ready to buy points the minute the sale started....now my husband is like "maybe we should add on at AKV instead". The reason being that we love AKV so much. Also, the deals for AKV are quite good. My thoughts are that we don't really need to own at AKV because there are going to be so many rooms that we won't have a hard time getting in at 7 months.

He also thought maybe we'd add a very small contract at BLT (in addition to the AKV add on) possibly to stay there a few nights a year. Decisions, Decisions:rolleyes:

YES- I am re-thinking my intentions of adding on at BLT. Not for an AKV add-on though. Probably a resale somewhere like OKW or SSR.

2 main factors- the rumored HIGH price point and the WAITING.

We are as well. Given the projected cost per point, it seems almost crazy to spend that kind of money when we could pick up BCV or VWL for much cheaper on resale and have essentailly the same draw - close to the parks and monorail.

At any rate, we are heading down in late September and staying at VWL throgh CRO and will be walking around the Epcot resorts to check them out as well. Also, mmmmaaaaaybe by then the BLT will be announced with true cost.

I think if they would have announced it already, we would have bought 100 pts...but the more I wait, the more I wonder how MUCH more the points will be (both initial $$ cost and points to stay per night). In that case, I'm thinking BCV resale and maybe even some HHI- especially if I can use those points to stay at AKV or SSR at 7 months, they really are soooo much less, and I can definately see us using them at HHIR, we really enjoyed our vacation there. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they come out with on BLT....

My advice is to wait until at least October to make your decision. October is the start of Disney's fiscal year.

There is a rumor going around that there is going to be some kind of "Press Event" the first weekend in October The rumnor is supported by the cancellation of a MNSSHP originally scheduled for Sunday, October 5. Some think that Disney may announce BLT as a DVC resort at that time, as well as other things.

Once the BLT is confirmed as a DVC Resort and the sales start date is announced, there will be more info. Hopefully it will include a points chart and number of rooms/types. Based on that, it should be easier to see if you will need the home resort booking advantage at BLT for your preferred time and room type.

AKV will not be sold out for quite some time - if you decide to buy AKV, there will still be time to do so. It seems as though there are always incentives of some type.

The reason being that we love AKV so much.

Doesn't seem to be much more to say after that, eh? :)

If you have come to love AKV, make that your home resort and add on there. You can always attempt to use your points to stay at BLT.

In the past, I owned at Boardwalk and Beach Club. I really came to love the Boardwalk, so I sold my Beach Club and purchased more into Boardwalk.

I, too, was/am enamored with the idea of BLT. However, I do not know if I am going to jump at the chance to purchase there. I'll probably just try to luck in at the 7 month window using my BWV points. As I do not plan on "being around" at the expiration date of the newer units, the expiration for BWV fits me just fine. :)

part of me thinks about a BC resale. We stayed there in May and loved being so close to Epcot. We haven't stayed at BWV but are going in October. Our original resort is SSR so next will be an add on. We only have 150 points which is def not enough. We are thinking we need like 300 to be happy.

I gave up on buying a small contract at BLT (and BCV as well) as soon as the ramifications of the new reservation policy were understood (I would have wanted to try to pick up a day or 2 during high demand times).

Even if the reservation policy had not changed I would have been rethinking it due to the economy. Then again if the business contract that I am waiting to hear about comes through this week I might change my mind. I would still probably wait a year to see if they figure out a way to eliminate the disadvantage the new policy has created for short/split stay members. If not, if I need more points I will just do a resale add on to my OKW points.

I am still skeptical that DVC will raise the BLT point cost much above the rest of the on site DVC resorts, I think it is much more likely that DVC will significantly raise the point requirements per night.

I... In that case, I'm thinking BCV resale and maybe even some HHI-...
I know you just came back from a great hhi trip- we added on 100 at hhi after our 1st trip and it was a very cheap way to add-on. In order to keep your costs down it is important to get the seller to pay all the closing fees because they are $$$ for HHI because SC law requires an attorney for closing. Anyway- when it was all said and done- I got 100 point contract with all points in tact (exactly as I would have gotten from DVC) for under 67 pp- total. The MFs are in line with BWV- they aren't too bad - especially if it is a smallish contract. I love my HHI points.

Since I already have points at AKV, BCV, BWV and VWL, I am still waiting for BLT.

My thoughts are that we don't really need to own at AKV because there are going to be so many rooms that we won't have a hard time getting in at 7 months.

That is true; however, you will need the 11 month window to book concierge and value rooms. 7 month bookings for those rooms will be impossible.

I gave up last month, and bought an addon at BCV.
But now I'm thinking I should get some BLT as well.
At least the BCV points make the waiting easier, and if the BLT price per point, or the points per night are outrageous, then I'll stick with what I have.

Add me to the list. I had been so gung-ho about buying in the minute it opened, but the longer I have to sit and think about it the more I'm backing off from the idea.

I think it's going to be outrageously expensive, though at least we have a soft economy on our side. I doubt that's going to help much.

Plus, I'm pretty disenchanted with Disney these days. Buying a 50 year commitment to them for tens of thousands of dollars hardly seems the right way to express it.

I'm also thinking it's not going to be as convenient as I once imagined it would be. It looks like kind of a long haul from the building to the monorail, and I'm concerned that the monorail line might not be able to handle the increased capacity well.

Finally, there are many ways to get the same or similar benefits without buying in--we can stay at VWL, try our luck at the 7 month window (we can be very flexible about when we travel), rent points, or even stay for cash at CR or the Polynesian if the urge to stay on the MK loop gets overwhelming.

Unless there's some incredible deal or a huge windfall comes my way, I think we're actually going to pass on BLT.

I saw some recent pictures on another board just yesterday and was thinking the exact same thing. The building is huge, dwarfs the CR and looks to be a long walk to the MR station if you happen to get stuck on the far side. I have a feeling, hoping anyway, that booking at off season 7 month marks might be very doable. We will see.

I think the mouse has a tough decision to make. Either jack up the point cost to recoup quickly the capital outlay and potentially take a long time to sell or sell for AKV rates and just hope the volume of buyers is there.

We ended up splitting the difference. We were going to wait for BLT to become DVC members, however we ended up buying 175pts at AKV b/c of the great incentives. We are still likely to get 250 at BLT when it goes on sale - the exact number will depend on how many points a 1 br with a MK view costs in Oct. The AKV contract will cover our winter/spring trips - hopefully in concierge, but BLT will cover our anniversary trip each year.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for some more developer points out of the BLT sale to bring some extra family along for a vacation, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

we just bought at AKV because we fell in love with the rooms though we may of bought at SSR because of the room. We are paying off our AKV this week actually once I call accounting to find out if I need a bank check though we are intrigued by BLT and may buy the same amount of points we have at AK so there are even points for the kids LOL.

I think it will depend on the economy

We were originally very excited about the prospect of buying into BLT until the prices started leaking out and then we thought about it more. We bought at AKV and are now "kinda" thinking about buying a re-sale at BWV or BCV so we can have the 11-month window at an EPCOT resort. But we also LOVED our recent stay at VWL.....

I was planning on buying a small add-on contract at BLT, but now am rethinking that plan. I'm going to wait and see what the points chart and incentives are like, but might be purchasing resale again. I will only buy DVC when I have the funds in full, so it might mean another year of waiting before adding-on anywhere.

We have 300 at SSR and we NEED MORE. 300 IS NOT ENOUGH EITHER. :rotfl:
