Anyone having problems showing BLT restraint?

I'm definitely doing at least a 100 point add on-- I want to do it RIGHT NOW too, but considering what happened with the AKV and that the foundering Members paid more, well I'm trying to hold back. But then again, if this sells really good, will there be any incentives.

The thing about the economy is that gas prices are going down, so consumers are feeling richer. I went shopping 2 weeks ago and there wasn't a parking space to be had and this shopping mall didn't even have any kids clothing store in it to attract back to school shopping. And people were buying!!!

I think I will wait at least a few weeks and she how it goes.

Absolutely no interest here - so no need for restraint! :)

I really wasn't expecting that BLT would tempt me very much at all. I just thought it wouldn't really be "our thing" or that the price per point would be the rumored $140-ish per point and would rule it out immediately.

But now that I've seen the virtual tour of the units, I'm really loving it. I might be in the minority, but I like the decor (not something I would do at my house, but fun for vacation). I love the pop art style artwork on the walls. I also love the idea of having the monorail and being within walking distance of the MK.

So we would love to do a 50 point add-on, so we could stay there every 3 years or so for a few nights. But right now it doesn't make financial sense for us, so we're holding off. Maybe we'll revisit the idea once we get our tax refund.

It concerns me that there seem to be no plans for an additional restaurant, given Kidani was designed with plans for Saana...I guess the thinking is that those were CR rooms anyway so the occupancy would be the same? I'm not a fan of the California Grill but if I were, I'd be wondering how much more difficult it will be to get a reservation.

I do like the three view categories and the rooms look really nice IMO.

We're more interested than we thought we'd be... Even though I dislike the decor, DH likes it pretty well, and we both love the view. We do spend a fair amount of time in our room (we have a little one, plus all of us need some down time) and views do matter to us. I really want to get MK view sometimes. Now, it remains to be seen if we'll have to add on to do so, given the high point cost to stay there. We have enough points to handle it for several days, but I don't know what our chances are going to be of getting it at the 7 month window. So we're tempted to do an add on at some point to make sure we can do several nights with MK view at least every few years.

If it were GF or the Poly... or even more attractive Contemporary, we would buy in more certainly.

I think location and great views are the selling points. We are considering adding on so that we could begin or end our AKV stays there but with the economy/airfare/gas and the whole feeling of instability right now (on top of the fact that we are still paying our AKV contract and would need to borrow for the add on as well.
Another thing is you really need to add on a considerable amount of points to make it worthwhile.......
Very tempting. I wonder if the actual Contemporary will see an increase in booking b/c of BLT or not?

The only question for me is how many points to buy! Realistically it would be smarter to just buy 100 now and then add-on as many more as I can before it sells out, but I just have this sneaky feeling that I'll get carried away and end up w/ 200! lol Another possibility for me would be to sell back my 200 pts @ SSR and take the money that was going towards that plus the extra I have slotted for BLT & just buy as many as I can @ BLT(300? dare I say 400!?).

I have no interest in buying into BLT. Hopefully once the hoopla dies down about staying there, I will be able to get in one trip booked at the 7-month window. I usually go in the slower times of the year so maybe I will be lucky. All in all, I am perfectly happy with VWL. The boat to the MK works just fine for me and I usually drive to all the other parks.

I'm not even in the market for any more points right now, but I find myself wanting to buy BLT. I think it's all the hype. I felt like this when AKV were announced and I managed to resist. :)

Same here - I keep telling myself that I survived AKV announcement, I can survive this one. Gee, I hope I don't get like this every time a resort opens!

This theard is helping me out alot. I really don't need them. Plus I have other fun stuff to buy before that. Good Thread!!!:thumbsup2

Glad this is helping you - because I know it is helping me too! I haven't seen the points chart (anyone with a link want to help me out?) but from what I hear that should bring me back to reality.

I'm excited to hear about THV as well, but I'm cautiously excited until I hear more about how they are going to work that into SSR. As an SSR owner, I do feel like I just won a bonus prize getting THV thorwn into my resort! And that reminds me that there is no free lunch (esp with Disney!).

When the architectural drawing were discovered on the web and everyone was first talking about CRV, I was a little interested. The AKV, GCV, Hawaii Villas came out and my interest in everything DVC dropped like a lead balloon. Since then I've sold two contracts, in the process of selling a third and, who knows, might contemplate selling the last two.

DVC was a nice little club in the past. Now, it's Disney's answer to the money crunch. Rooms are getting smaller, the number of points required for a single night in the newer places is going up, the cost of points is going up (much too fast if you ask me) and I'm losing interest fast in all things DVC.

I fear there are going to be a lot of DVC "foreclosures" just like the housing market because people are getting in over their heads. When all the costs start adding up (theme park tickets, transportation costs, food costs, annual maintenance fees, initial buy in, etc), I think a lot of newer owners are going to be very surprised just how expensive DVC really is.

Then we'll see all the DVC resorts become upgrades for those people going during free dining because Disney can't fill up the rooms it owns at DVC resorts. Not begrudging the people getting the upgrades, just Disney's lack of forethought.

I too started to get caught up in all the excitement, especially as I happen to be on the boards very early yesterday when the news broke.

Then I saw the video and it was as if a cold bucket of water had been thrown on me. Definitely not my taste.

Janni518 Speakes for me too!! - I'd love the view but the rooms, eck!!

Agree. It is going to be interesting going forward to see what incentives are rolled out for BLT. Disney could not be launching it at a worse time.

Hmmm, I have 900 points and five home resorts. It looks like I have to work on that "restraint" thing. :goodvibes

It's Disney, that's what they do best! Your wallet goes :wizard:

My rational thought on BLT, there will be resales, I'll let others overspend.

I have to agree with you!!!! Soon enough they will show up on the resale market, and I will be the first one in line!!! I think the decor of the rooms is beautiful. Very simple and easy on the eyes. I'm not sure how many points we will get eventually, but I know I want some. You can not beat the location!

Its weird. The entire time the resort was being built and still "rumored," I said repeatedly that we would add on there. Now that its here, I dont really see it happening. This was our first full year of DVC, and we didnt use all of the 180 points we currently have. We are basically local and can pop down anytime, but its not like we didnt use it, because we visit once a month. Since we are flexible on dates, I'm sure we will get to stay at BLT, just as we have stayed at all the other DVC resorts this year with no problem, even AKV the second week it was available. I guess it kinda helps when I can call MS and say "Find me a studio on any Wednesday night this year." ;)

No problems with restraint here. We hit the shore every year and have vacations elsewhere, But we have to stay within our means. I can splurge or cut back depending on where we stand with money. I bought DVC because of what they had, not what is coming. It's great to see the new sites coming online or in the works, but I try to weigh all opportunities with a level head. I'll stay in in BLT sometime for a short stay, but I won't buy into it. The kids are young and OKW, AK, SSR will suit us just fine.
