We had GE appliances when we built this home 14 yrs ago. After seven years, the side by side fridge went, so we bought Whirlpool Gold, after reading Consumer Reports. That fridge, also side by side has broken at least once. I can remember the repairman coming out and replacing a circuit board. He said that was a known problem in those fridges. We may have even replaced it twice, aghh!! I honestly can't remember. We had those problems after only owning it 2 yrs. Anyway, the repair was several hundred $$.
Having said that, now the fridge is working fine. I know people have problems with the icemakers/water dispenser, but ours has always been fine. I love that you can lift the icemaker out, and have a ton of ice to throw in a cooler. We have season passes to Busch Gardens, and it's really handy to be able to have ice ready to go for the cooler/car trip.
