I was diagnosed with RSD and had one lumbar block. It did nothing for me so the pain specialist now doesn't think it is RSD. They sent me back to my Orthopod. He is now sending me to another pain clinic. He can't see anything that is causing the pain from his stand point. I was wondering what your experience has been with these blocks?

I have spinal stenosis and had a series of three lumbar shots, and unforutnetly I did not have any relief. Hope you have better relutls.

My DH had compression fractures in his lower thoracic spine 1-1/2 years ago. He has had two series of steroid injections in his back. One series includes outpatient visits to the surgery center every other week for a total of 3 visits. His pain mgmt doctor says that the 2nd set always works the best. He also has some lumbar problems and the medications travel down, due to gravity, and provides some relief. His back still hurts but he has some relief w/ the injections.

My SIL has lumbar pain. She was diagnosed w/ torn facets (something like that) and has had some newer procedure that involves heated wires inserted into your back to shrink the tear. I don't quite remember the exact name of it, but it is something like that.

Hope this helps!

I fell off a ladder in April of 08 and still haven't been back to work. Yes the shots work for some people, and not for others. I'm on my second set since sept,I'm not looking for complete relief just enough to make life bearable. Shots, pills, PT, a tens unit, aqua PT may all help.
I've been dianosed with spinal stenonis since 2005 another work accident showed it.The big thing is not to give up, I've seen alot of doctors and still might have to see a sergeon because of workers comp wants it.
My best advise is to keep taking the pills and doing all that they tell you some one will find the problem and help you. Always remember that the pain may never completely go away. You may have to try and get to a level that is tolerable for you. My last shot, while I was waiting to go back to the room I over heard a lady saying that she couldn't stand the pain in her back it was a 2 out of a scale of 1 - 10 I could live all day long with that.
Keep your chin up and look foward. it will get betterI know mine will. Good luck and hang in there.

My problem is not with my back, but with my foot. I had the first block and it didn't help at all, in fact it just mae me hurt elsewhere for a few days. Just what I wanted! More pain, yippee!

I guess to really answer your question is most doctors do the lumbar injections in a series of 3 shots to a set and maybe more than one set.

I guess what I was trying to say is, watch what you ask for. Sometimes less is more. As you found out ,you may want more tests and less action until they can pinpoint what is causing your pain. I was trying to help in the pain part of your problem, letting you know that I've had several shots to no good use,and more to come.

I've never had a lumbar injection/block, but I would suggest finding a board with more people with RSD/CPRS and asking there as I'm not sure that the pain doctor is correct that if you have RSD/CPRS the block will work for sure (I don't have it, but I know several people who have and I"m not sure all of them have gotten relief from lumbar injections). If you can ask a group of people with RSD/CPRS condition it might give you more useful help in terms of whether the injection not working would in fact rule RSD/CPRS out or possibly other things to try.

Good luck!
