We have ressies at Akershus for dinner in Dec. for my daughter's 9th birthday b/c she likes the princesses and we thought it would be fun. I've been looking over the menu again recently and am now a little worried about what the food is like there.

I can't use the search function to see if anyone already has reviewed the restaurant or posted any pix, so I would REALLY appreciate it if anyone can help me out with pictures of the buffet/ food at dinner time or your opinions of the meal.

Thanks!

I was not overly thrilled with the food. I tried the Lamb Stew. it was OK, the salad bar was good, but not enough variety for me. i would have liked to see some more different choices. The kids food was the typical kid cuisine. My husband had a fish dish. he seemed to like it.

The girls loved meeting the Princesses, even though some of them seemed like they would rather be anywhere but there. I think Ariel was even a bit rude. You get a nice picture with the dinner too. So, I guess it has good and bad aspects about it.

We went there last thurs for dd bd lunch and like the pevious poster the cold bar was good but needed more variety.I had the veg.stuffed pasta and did not like it at all.It was still worth the money for the princesses. And also we seen Ariel and she was fabulous! My daughter told her she is her all time favorite princess and Ariel sent her a Birthday card with an autographed picture(card said Happy Birthday Chantel you are one of my favorite humans! Ariel and the photo said to one of my favorite humans Ariel) attached to 3 balloons.:cheer2: It was in our room when we returned that night on the bed.Thought that was truly a thoughtful and generous thing to do and it was the highlight of DD trip.Truly magical and by the way dd turned 17 on her bd so she is not a young child.Hope you have a magical trip!

The food here is good (not "great") but Akershus is all about the princesses. The character interaction here is great and as a previous poster said, you'll get a nice princess photo package. :thumbsup2 We've found the princesses to be friendly and cheerful, I hope they are when you go too.

As for the food, read the menu over and see if you would enjoy any of the entrees slightly modified. Don't be afraid to ask for something with a different side or w/o sauce. They've always seemed very happy to accommodate requests. Also, you may order an adult size portion of a kid's menu item like cheese ravioli. The cold buffet is more like a small salad bar. IMO, the dessert plate was very tasty. :)

I wish I had pictures for you to see. Hopefully, you'll get some posted.

Have a great trip. :goodvibes

You can try doing a web search for pictures. Do a regular search, but instead of "web", hit the "images" button. I found a lot of pictures for the restaurant, but most of them were princess pictures, I'm not sure if there were any for food.

Thanks for your help! I'll try searching the web in general for pix...I didn't think of that. If anyone finds any pictures, I'd still love to see them!

What day are you going? We have an early dinner scheduled on the 10th. I am so jealous you are at the Poly. I thought about it, but I couldn't justify it. Someday.

I did the lunch in May 2007. I loved the food, and I am a bit of a foodie. DD4 still says it is her favorite thing at Disney.

One of our favorites too! :cheer2: The kids don't really like the food, but they are super picky. DH loves the food and dd loves the princesses. Ariel was the best the day we were there. Cinderella was the worst and looked like she couldn't wait to leave!

I had the kjottkaker or whatever it's called. Kind of reminded me of meatloaf or salisbury steak, maybe a cross between the two. It was delicious. We're going back in January. DD had the kids pizza and ate almost all of it so she must have liked it.

We really enjoyed our dinner meal there! It was certainly much, much better than some of the other character meals we have eaten at (the buffets specifically).

When we go to character meals it's not for the food, so if it's decent, we are fine with that. Can't get a better value for seeing the princesses.

We're going on the 11th! My DH is into Hawaiian culture and such, so he said the only way he would go to Disney (his first time) would be to stay at the Poly...he didn't know the cost at the time, and once I booked it, it was too late  I'm not sure we'll be able to spring for it again without any discounts, so we'll have to make the most of it this trip!

I scheduled the dinner here b/c of the princesses, but she'll be turning 9, and I'm hoping she won't be too "mature" for it :cutie: I'm sure she and my DD 6 (and my DS 3!) will love seeing them though!

I wish they had chicken fingers on the menu for her though! That's the only reason why I'm a little more concerned about it than I normally would be. For her birthday dinner, I'd like her to have something she likes and to not have to choose pickled herring

Thanks for asking the question! This is our first ADR when we go in January. Thought it would be fun to start with a character meal. I am a little worried about the food. My kids will be fine with ravioli. But I am not sure about me and DH? Both of our families are from Norway, and we eat a lot of Norwegian food. But the menu looks iffy?!?
