I have had a headache for about a week and a half, I never normally have headaches and I am not sure if it is a migraine but I feel like my head is going to blow up. I have also has some short little spells of diziness. At first I thought it was a sinus headache but I have no other symptoms of sinus problems and allergy meds have done nothing. Does it sound like a migraine to those of you in the know???

My mother has migraines and she is in bed with them for about a week and they cause her to vomit. When we were younger we had to keep the light and tv switched of if she was having one and it was very painfull.

I would go to a doctor as a normal headache does not usually last for a week and a half. Maybe you should go for an eye test as well as that can be a cause of head aches.

I have the typical classic ugly migraines.

Yours does not sound like a migraine though.

I would get it checked out immediately with the doctor, especially for a week and half long and the dizzy spells.

Not to scare you, please this may not apply to you at all, but my friend's sister was just diagnosised with a brain tumor. She had sypmtoms similar to yours but SHE passed out and they rushed her to the hospital. Thankfully, it's operable, but still dangerous.

Good luck to you.

if you have a sinus infection or even an ear infection with or without pain it would give you dizzy spells.. maybe you need an antibiotic and not just an over the counter sinus pill.. :confused3 eyes would be a good thing to have checked as well too...

as far as migrains.. i get them and oh boy do they hurt Bad.. i have perscribed medication i need to take the instant i feel a migrain coming on.. i am also in bed.. no lights.. no noise.. or in the bathroom i go to visit the porcline god.. they hurt sooo bad i can hardly stand let alone function.. oh and.. i sleep alot with a migrain..

good luck.. i hope u feel better soon...

I do have a doctor's appointment for this afternoon.

I have a chiropracher friend who last night told me it was a stess/tension headache....but encouraged me to keep my MD appointment....he said my my neck and shoulders are really tight, and he would notice a dirrference since he is at my house a couple of times a week and I am always begging for adjustments.

I don't know much about migraines, but I have had two sinus infections, and my head hurt like heck. I can usually cure any pain I have with 3 Advil, but Advil wouldn't touch those headaches. Do your teeth hurt? Have you recently had a cold? Have you taken your temperature? (I had a very low grade fever with mine, so low I didn't realize it until they took my temp at the doctor's office).

Make an appointment with your doctor. You said you have been on meds, but were you on anti-biotics? The doctor can analyze your symptoms, and even look into your sinus cavity to see if there is inflammation. Hopefully he can make you feel better quickly.

I did take my temp yesterday 99.3. The meds that I have been taking are allergy decongestant not antibiotics. I have had lots of sinus infections over the years and this just doesn't seem to act like those....I guess in 3 hours I'll get the opinion of a professional.

We leave for Disney in 9 days and that is the last thing I want is to be sick for our trip. :(

You posted above at the same time I did. I sure hope you are feeling better soon. If you are sick, now is the time to take care of it so you are AOK for Disney. :goodvibes

I too suffer from migraines and have for most of my life. I am 42 now and have gotten to the point that nothing will get rid of them. I have them every day of my life. I have tried everything. All the Migraine medications have an adverse effect on me and I end up in the emergency room with something called a kickback migraine, which is about 10X's worse than the original! I went to a Neurologist and have been seeing him for about a year now and he has been treating me with this drug called Topomax, it is an anti-sezere medication and I really have to tell you it is a godsend! For the first time in my life I wake up in the morning pain free! No migraines!!!! :cool1:
It did take a while to find the correct dosage and I did change my diet and increase my activity level (all for the better!) I am a new person today and I can't believe how dibilitating those headaches were! Now if I forget to take my medicine, I will get a migraine! So it is in my best interest NOT to forget!!!! Those suckers are underlying all the time!!!

Can they just develop all of a sudden and last a week and a half? Not sure, you would be very sensitive to the light and nausous, most likely you would have a very difficult time opening your eyes much less moving your head. Any movement you would want to puke! You certaintly would not want to be on the computer!!!! That is the last place you would want to be, thinking is out of the question!!! Sleep is all you can really do! Darkness is all you want! As for the dizziness, that could be an inner ear thing? It is good you are going to the doctor, they may want to do an MRI just to check things out. Especially since you don't have a history of migraines.
Good luck and let us know what happens!!!!

Maria, I am also on Topamax. It's not doing a lot to help my migraines and I probably won't be on it much longer (but I love it for weight loss reasons). I've tried lots of different meds and none of them help. The only thing that seems to be helping is a progesterone cream, applied nightly, since the hormonal changes of perimenopause seems to trigger them in a lot of women my age (I'm 45). I just started that treatment, so too early to know for sure, but it seems that instead of headaches 3-4x/week I'm only getting them that often the one week a month I'm not using the cream. Thought I would mention that to you in case it's something you haven't tried.

My migraines were so bad that I was taking daily meds and getting rebound headaches. I had to take oral steroids to try and break the cycle of the meds. Not fun. :sad2: Even when I didn't have a headache, my head had a dull ache all the time. The last month or two is the first time in a few years that I haven't felt horrible. I still watch everything that I eat and drink (alcohol, cheese, etc).

OP, I hope you find your answer and it's something simple like a sinus infection.

Sure do - theyre loads of fun, arent they?!?!?

Its very possible to have a migraine feel like a sinus headache - but it's also very possible to have a doozey of a sinus headache, with no "sinus" (i.e. booger-ee) symptoms. I even get sinus headaches in the back of my skull - my first one, I paniced - thought I was having a stroke, it hurt so bad. Went to ER - no, just another one of my lovely headaches! YAY!

I dont wanna be on something "all the time" - so I choose to take things when I hurt. Which, my drug of choice is Vicodin. GOD BLESS VICODIN! I dont wanna hear about the adverse side effects, and the possibility of dependancy - I love them, and they work every single time, for years now.

Good luck to you - they suck, and theyre no fun. :guilty:

Tigger,
Have you talked to your Dr. about your headache's not going away? The Topomax really should work, maybe your dosage is not high enough? What my dr. did was to give me the 25mg tabs and every 2-3 weeks if I did not notice the headaches going away, I was to call him and discuss them and then increase by 1 pill. We did this for months, and I finally leveled out to a dosage that worked for me. Six months later I had to increase again by one pill, and that was ok, I am still fine. I have cut the caffine, diet soda and am just drinking water now, I think that has made a HUGE difference! My dosage is high, because my migraines are very severe, and I had them daily. You should work with your dr on this. I have not started Men. yet, Not sure when that will take place, I have had a hyst. and I don't know what the symptoms would even be!!! I am still a happy camper!!! :thumbsup2
I can definately wait on that one!!!! I am just so glad I found this Dr. though!!!

Yup, doctor's appointment is needed. Nobody who is medically qualified would give you other advice over the internet like this. Even with a medical degree, I am not prepared to offer advice or diagnosis etc without you being seen and I think it is probably not a good idea for others too either, as you may get either a false sense of security or of doom!! Let us know how your appointment went and good luck!!! :)

Migraines make you dizzy, and sensitive to light and sounds. They make me just wnat to go lay in a dark room and cry honestly.

You may be having a very bad headache.

Took me a little bit to find this thread again as the new search is not so easy to navigate.

So basically the doctor told me he didn't know what was wrong with me. Just my luck, it's a crap shoot....some symptoms of sinus but sinuses are clear, some symptoms of tension headache but not all, some symptoms of migraines but not all, no symptoms of cluster headaches(whatever those are) so that has been rules out. He gave me a prescription of Migquin which is for both migraines and tension headaches and also told me to take 800mg of advil with each does of Migquin. So now 48 hours after starting the meds the dizzyness has gone away and the headache seems to be lessened but not gone yet. He tells my if it is not gone by Monday to call him and he will do a quick CT scan before I leave on Thursday. I am hoping since it is lessening that it will be gone by the weekend.

I guess I am leaning a bit towards the stress/tension headache myself as I have probably let myself get a bit stressed the past couple of weeks, between just settling a child custody battle with DH's ex who thought she was just going to convienently take her son back rather than pay child support and not having a manager for my 4 tanning salons and basically leaving them on auto pilot for a week while I got to WDW.

Oooohhh, never cry. Bad, bad.............makes it so much worse.

Does sound like you've been under pressure. Tension headaches, as I understand it, are caused by you tensing your shoulder and back muscles.............I do that a lot myself, but only rarely get those headaches. Migraines I get every couple months.

The Topamax was at as high of a dose as the neuro dr wanted to go considering the side effects (tingling, short term memory loss, dizziness, etc). We're pretty sure that they are hormonal and the progesterone seems to be helping. Such an easier thing to take. I had the first migraine in a few weeks yesterday, but it was diet related (for our anniversary we went to fondue and had cheese and chocolate  ).

I do still drink coffee and am ok with that as long as I drink the same amount every day, at the same time. That is the worst thing for someone with migraines.

Mine are hormonal/cyclical. On birth control pills, I'd have a 4 day migraine after every 21 days of the pill. I could not live like that - 4 days of migraine every 28 days. So the doctor said to take three consecutive months of pills, then stop for a week. So then that was 4 days of migraine every 63 days. So this week I called the doctor and said that I just couldn't face the 4 days of migraine coming up. He said "Never stop taking the pills. You don't need to have periods." :goodvibes I'd been wondering that. I'm 48, for goodness sakes; some of my friends have stopped already anyway. :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: Hope it works!
