I will be on a 3 or 4 hour plane ride with my teenage daughter and she is always bored out of her wits with nothing to do. A book never occupys her long and she just runs out of things to do after the first hour. Any ideas how to keep her occupied?

Do you have a portable dvd player? She could watch a movie or bring along an mp3 player. You could also bring along a Disney planning guide and have her help plan some of your days. I also picked up counting cross stitch in college...I loved spending some time working on small projects...maybe you can help teach her or learn with her and she can work on that on the flight.

those are really good ideas, the cross stitch im not sure (I dont think I can see well enough to show her) but I will use the other ones. She is actually getting a portable DVD player for gradutating

MP3 player -- I've never met a teen yet who couldn't zone out for hours given the right tunes.

that is her alright. thats another one of our graduation presents to her

I think that if your teen has a Nintendo DS, they should bring it and go on pictochat to see if anyone else on the plane is on and they can talk.

What about a good old fashioned game of cards?? When I was a teen...which actually wasn't all that long ago, my mother taught me how to play rummy & gin rummy. She also taught me how to croche. I picked up a little needle point on my own. It used to pass the time, I never made anything of any significance!
Or how about a game of travel scrabble?

laptop and headphones will also do the trick along with a good old hollywood gossip magazine like the Inquirer or Star

I was a "teen" not too long ago and I cannot believe she doesn't like to READ! That is a crime! :) To each their own. :grouphug:

Will she listen to audio books on her MP3/iPod? Wal-Mart was selling the 1 gig iPod shuffles for $39.99 (I think that was the price) AND giving a free $15 iPod card with purchase not too long ago. Books can be downloaded at the iTunes store online.

I second the suggestion cards and of learning a new craft (needlepoint is super easy).

I had a friend (an adult) who said she loved to get new coloring books and a box of pretty new crayons and color during flights--that she never got that opportunity anymore so it was a fun thing that she did on flights to/from Hawaii, since it's such a long flight. I think I'm going to try this one since I'll be lugging crayons for children anyway! :thumbsup2

actually she really does like to read but I don't know why but she hates reading on the plane. The ipod is a great thing. She is very passionate about music. The new craft doesn't sound bad and she does love to draw, she has a huge art set but I'm not sure they would take it as carry on. Those are all very good and helpful ideas though. Keep 'em comin' they really help (I just hope she doesn't find out, this is her disboards account)

If your headed to Disney, what about scrapbook supplies, and let her make her own photo album.

thats a really good idea, I will definately keep that one in mind
