Anyone Have Family/friends Killed By A Drunk Driver?

Yes, my cousin's son. It was devastating. My cousin's wife now goes all over the state sharing the story with high schoolers, warning them about the dangers of drunk driving.

Good friend and former co-worker lost her mother, her father and her younger sister to a drunk driver 5 years ago. I have ZERO tolerance for people who drive drunk.

no but I do know someone who was driving drunk and hit a man walking down the street. while he didn't die, he wasn't ever the same and lived a shortened life. This was 30+ years ago when we didn't have the drunk driving laws of today.

FWIW (not much I would bet) the driver never drove again and had a hard time dealing with what he did. He has had a pretty tough road.

Yes, my brother was hit ON THE SIDEWALK by a drunk driver when he was 22. I have NO tolerance for drinking/driving and can get quite passionate about it. I have been cheated of 25 years so far of knowing the wonder of him as we grow older. DUI is a HUGE deal!

my younger brothers best friend was killed in a drunk driving accident almost exactly 2 years ago. it will be 2 years on the 16th of this month.

Yes, a good childhood friend of mine was struck and killed by a drunk driver while crossing the street.
I have a lot of neck and back problems after being t-boned by a drunk driver 4 years ago. She fled the scene and was never charged with drunk driving. It cost DH and I more money for that accident than it did her.

Yes, my former boyfriend's best friend. We used to double date. Really nice guy. Had everything going for him, in his last year of college. He was coming home after a skiing trip, late at night. A drunk driver was trying to get in front of a large truck on a back road and was speeding in the wrong lane. He hit him head on. Died instantly.

So very sad.

My cousin's 8 yo son was killed by a drunk driver while pushing his bike across a residential street...

Um yes, DUI "IS" a big deal!

Yes, my dad's cousin (a dear uncle who spent a lot of time with us and we had fun) was killed by a drunk driver while he was fixing his flat on the side of the road.

He left behind a wife, a stepson, and twin daughters. Even more tragic was my aunt couldn't deal with his death and ended up giving the twins up for adoption - their brother left for college. (I have an identical twin sister.... and I was willing to adopt them, but a non-family member somehow got the opportunity first.)

Yup, DUI is a big deal!

No, but I have a friend who was a drunk driver. She was drunk and high and crossed the median, hitting another car head on. She killed two people in that car and paralyzed herself from the neck down. A miserable situation all the way around......

Memorial Day 1996

A drunk driver in Steger, Illinois killed four young kids as they walked down a darkened road. One of those kids was the daughter of my sister in law's sister. It was horrible time for my extended family and when they say the wounds never heal, I can personally vouch for that. My extended family has gone through a great deal of pain and they have wounds that will never heal. This guy said he thought he hit a deer, but the next morning when he heard the news reports, he immediately checked himself into a mental health center where the police could not get to him. It was learned during the investigation that he had been at a nearby tavern and was probably overserved when he left that evening. However, by entering the mental health facility, alcohol and drug testing could not be done in a timely enough manner.

I think he served about a year in jail for the taking of four young lives.

My mother's 1st cousin was in a drunk driving accident. He was 26 years old. His parents have yet to make steps to return back to anything close to normal.

I have many friends who were the drunk driver and it cost them their lives. 5 in a very short time. Thankfully they were the only ones involved.

A DUI is NOT something to be taken lightly. If they get away with it once, then it's easy to say, I'll get away with it again.

A cousin who was injured when a drunk driver crashed and my cousin who was walking down the street ended up with glass, plastic and debris embedded in his leg.

A very good friend who was killed by a drunk driver.

A friend from high school who drove drunk, crashed and died.

Yes, my cousin has a set of twins girls (teens). One of the girls was killed because her boyfriend was drunk driving.

I have had several friends killed in high school.

My cousin was hit by a drunk driver, not killed, my maimed/injured for life.

Yep, my great grandmother (I was named after her) was killed by a drunk driver on my 9th birthday. The guy was driving a semi. She and her friend were going to Florida on vacation killed both of them instantly.

My grandfather was killed 10 years ago on 2 days after Christmas. He was driving home to Louisiana from visiting family in Florida. He was driving on a 4 lane divided highway when a drunk driver passed through the right way, through the culvert and turned into oncoming traffic, where he hit my grandpa head on. It has and always be the most devestating thing that has happened to my family.

1982 my father was killed and my husband paralyzed by a drunk driver
1986 my Godmother was killed and my mother severely injured by a drunk
driver

My family considers drunk driving a very big deal.

These stories just break my heart.

I have a dear friend who will be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life because a teenage girl who was drunk and talking on her cell phone ran a red light.

I have another friend who was riding with her parents when their car was struck by a drunk driver. She was 14 at the time and had to go through major facial reconstruction surgery.

Drinking and driving is always a big deal.

december of 2003, 6 months after highschool graduation, 3 friends were killed. They had been at a party and thought they could make it the 3 blocks home. There were 2 other girls in the car with them that are now paralyzed. I do not tolerate in any way, shape, or form the need to drive after you have been drinking.

i don't care who you are, there is always someone you can call!
