I have been having gastro problems for many years, which was diagnosed as IBS. The Dr was not sure why I vomited almost monthly along with my stomach pain. This past Tues, the pain got so bad and lasted thru Thurs, when I saw my gastro Dr (first time in 3 years-my fault). I could hardly walk into the office, and based on symptoms, he quickly diagnosed as diverticulitis, and put me on antibiotics & pain meds. After 24 hours on the meds, I no longer needed the painkillers (still in pain, but manageable). It is now 48 hours later, and I am still not "going". How long should the not "going" last before I get concerned? How many days do you need to relax before you stop feeling fatigued & in pain? Also, is it possible that my intense stomach pain all these years has been related to the diverticulitis & not IBS? Sorry if its too much info, just trying to get some info from someone experienced with this. One more question...every year we go to WDW, I get this stomach illness....& it puts me out of commission for a day or so. Any way to avoid it?

All I know is that my dad is in the hospital with this right now. This is his 4th 'attack' since being diagnosed a couple years ago. He will stay for 48 hours to see whether or medication works or if he needs surgery. All I really know is that when your doctor tells you to change your diet and eat more fiber, DO IT!

DH has been diagnosed with diverticulitis three times. Two of those times we ended up at the ER because he was in so much pain. I don't think he ever had issues with not being able to go to the bathroom after being on the antibiotics. He had a colonoscopy this summer and things looked okay. I wish I had more information for you.

Sorry, not much help here.
I was diagonised with Diverticulosis about 1 1/2 years ago. Surprise to me. Never a problem.
I have not had any flare ups at all.
Sometimes...ummm...things don't "move" as they should, I was told to take a stool softener.
I do eat a high fiber diet and supplement with psyllium husk.

Good luck.

Dh has diverticulitus. It is a chronic condition so even when he feels better he isn't 'cured'. We have found that the best way to avoid flare ups is to eat lots of high fiber things. He has fresh, raw fruit and vegetables in his lunch every day and eats 100% whole wheat bread, 2-4 pieces per day in sandwiches or toast. He also drinks Metemucil every morning. The last time he decided to cheat with the bread he had a flare up. The fiber is key to feeling well! Good luck.
