It's a new techie gadget for streaming from your computer or phone to the TV. Works like a roku or xbox except it's the size of a thumb drive and plugs right into the tv. you use it through wifi so no bulky boxes or wires.

I just ordered 2 of them but wondered if anyone here ever heard of it or used it.

No one will have heard of it or used it yet. They were just announced by Google at a press event yesterday. Even the tech press is just getting there hands on them today.

Sounds cool in general, but be aware. In that the HDMI port that you plug it into is not powered, they do require a power cord. The power cord plugs into the dongle via a USB power cable. The USB plug can be plugged into a powered USB port on your TV (if it has one), or into the power adapter. The cord and the adapter come with the Chromecast.

I'm just an ordinary geek, but mine got delivered this afternoon, will try it out tonight.

Works great. Setup was easy, though you need a Mac, PC, or Android to get started. Once it's set up, any device (the above as well as iPad/iPhone/etc.) can send YouTube, Netflix, etc. to the screen. If you have CEC enabled on your newer TV it can even turn on the TV and switch the input for you. Pretty slick.

The biggest downside so far is that if you use the feature to cast a Chrome browser tab, the video was unpleasantly gappy. Definitely a deal for $35.
