hi

Have just got a letter from the school and the teacher and head teacher will be coming for a home visit which I thought was odd, They say its to get to know the child however I think it to make sure we live in the catchment area.

DD will miss the induction visits as we will be at DLP.

I have just realised how soon it is to when my dd starts school and I feel a little sad however I am also so excited about it for her.
I think though I will be crying on her first day :sad2: she has been at nursery since she was 18months old however it feels like I will be sending her of in to the big bad world.

I think I am worried as I was such a sensitive child however it is easy to forget that my dd is so different from how I was as she is very confident.

hi there my oldest son missed his inductions days but i think because he was at nursery from 6mths he was fine and he seemed more confident than some of the other children in his class, alot did cry but a few days in the children were settled.

i wasn't sad and i didn't get upset but i think thats due to dropping him of at nursery every day.
i think you will suprise yourself when the day comes.

When DD was ready to start nursery they did a home visit, but we were in WDW at the time.

We have a meeting at 2pm this afternoon for her moving up to reception class, this is wear we get the uniform info and order form.

No, it's not to check up on you! :rotfl: The reason they do the home visit is because they feel children feel more confident on their own territory. They usually bring a couple of toys and some colouring things for your child to play with, to try and make them feel more comfortable with them for when they actually start school. When my eldest DD started school 10 years ago hers was the only school in our area that did it, now they all are so it must be working. :goodvibes

A big :grouphug: to all mums whose children will be starting school, I was dreading it when my youngest started but then I found the DIS........... :rolleyes1

Well my kids aren't (unless someone's not telling me something!) but my neice starts school in Sept. Her mum's getting quite nervous but I think she'll be ok on the day. She's volunteered at the school a lot recently, helping teach the very small ones to read so she knows the school and the teachers well already. We all breathed a sigh of relief when Iz was given a place there as apparently the other schools in the neighbourhood are less than desireable. Her best friend from creche is going to the same school so at least she'll have one person she knows on her first day.

We had our meeting, got some ground rules :)

Pack lunches, no crisps, no chocolate bars and no biscuits.

Kids can take water bottles in and it can only contain water.

quite an expensive time, £7.50 for school meals, DD attends the breakfast club which costs £1 a day, then 50p for baking, then we need after school care on certain days £3 for first hour then it goes up each hour. :scared1:

I was excatly the same when DD started Infant school, she started when she was 4 (a year earlier) she is now nearly 7, its brought her out of herself so much, she now in September started Primary  They grow so quickly.

I cried when I took her into school for the first time, My stomach was churning and I had the vision of me grabbing her,her coat and making a quick exit, but she loves it, she has friends, loves the teachers etc. :teeth:

Good Luck :goodvibes

Hi!
My son will be 4 years old on Aug 19th and starts school on Aug 30th,so he will be one of the youngest.I have been tempted to keep him out for another year as I'm soooooo going to miss my time with him.But then Id lose the place and Ive managed to get him into a really nice school.

His pick-up from school costs £11 a day(wed, thur and Fri - I only work 3 days),and Grandad will drop him off those mornings (thankfully!!)

I hope we Mums are all very brave - oh and our children too(they'll be fine,I know!!)

Lynn

Good luck to you all with children starting school in September. Don't feel guilty about shedding a few tears I did when my DD started school and I cried even harder when she did her last ever day last summer (she's 17 now and at college). You start wondering how you'll fill the time they're away and in no time you wish school would be just a 'little bit longer' so you can just finish that job you are in the middle of :)

blimey ! you should get a childminder ;) ;) ;)

My DS 4 started state nursery last yr (means he only goes part time) & I admit I too shed a few tears then. He now starts "big school" as he calls it - same school just that September he will be there all day! I know that on this day more tears again will be shed & again it will be mine :rotfl2:

You would think I would have learnt by now as I went through all this with DD5!!! :rolleyes1

I agree they will be fine its just us that won't be!!

When DD started nursery they did a home visit, which was fine. DD is 18 now and left school last friday. I didn`t think I would feel so heartbroken :sad2:
Anyway on a lighter note My niece went for her first intro to school last week as she starts in Sept. Dsis said to the teacher "this is Heidi" to which Heidi added "and I don`t do homework." Bless!
