I'm a teacher's aide and the teacher I work for has had calcifications that are checked every 6 months. She went on Friday and was told she'd need to have a biopsy and possibly have them removed. Her sister has had breast cancer so it does run in her family. Anyway, she'd like to have them removed and is debating if she should be put under anesthesia or not. What is your opinion, if you've had this done and what is the recovery period like? She was thinking of possibly going over our Easter vacation. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks! :sunny:

I have had breast calcifications. They did a biopsy and found them to be malignant at which time I had a lumpectomy followed by radiation. The surgery was very easy - I had a local but I think I was probably given a little extra as I don't remember anything until it was over. I was up and about the very next day. The surgery took about 45 minutes. This took place in April two years ago and I just had a mammogram and all is well. Good Luck to your friend.

Yes, I have had them. One in each breast. One was found when I was pregnant with my DD, so they couldn't do anything other then have it checked out every month. The other one was found a few years later. I had a biopsy on both of them, and the calcifications were removed. The biopsies were negative. I was under a local both times, but I told them I wanted to be alseep, so I was. I was fine a few hours later. It wasn't too bad. Good luck!
