Anyone have AT&T UVerse?

I'm interested in lowering our cable/interest/phone bill. We currently subscribe to all three services through our cable company. Their prices keep going through the roof! I've checked into satellite providers but wasn't impressed with the certain local channels not being available to us and the outages during storms (not power related). Does anyone use AT&T U-Verse? This is now available in our area and pricing looks great compared to our local cable provider. What are the pros/cons to AT&T's service?

Make sure you price it all the way through. UVerse just came to Orlando in mid-December, and when I filled out the UVerse estimate, it actually came in about $10 more per month, not including taxes and fees (in other words, cable plus Internet thorugh cable company was $120 with taxes and fees but the same package through UVerse was $130 BEFORE taxes and fees. We ended up not going with them (though some of the features, like recording 4 shows at a time and referencing yellowpages.com through your tv sounded awesome!)

We have it and like it for the most part. The only thing I don't like is that you can only delete shows from the main box. Also if you watching a live program anywhere other than the main box you can not pause it.

Price wise it was better than before. We used to have AT&T for phone/internet and Direct TV for TV.

It was:

AT&T - phone/internet 55
Direct TV - 82

Now it is:
Phone: $20
TV/internet $100

We have it, and I think it is incredible! We saved a ton of money over cable and I really like the DVR. They are always adding channels (HD and regular) and constantly keeping us up-to-date on changes. Also, we pay less on fees/taxes with U-Verse than with cable companies. They plan to have the golf channel where you can select what pga player you need. A lot of new technology.

We got U-verse in October and have mixed reviews on it. Although the bill is about $15 less than we used to pay, the service is not anywhere near the service we had with DISH satellite. My DD is a DVR junkie and is constantly complaining about the U-verse DVR (rightfully so). It locks up at least once per day when we pause something and when you hit "play" again, it is frozen .... then the whole show up to that point is lost and you have to re-start the system. This never happened with DISH. If this doesn't bug you, then by all means, get the U-verse. On the positive side, they offer tons of HD channels and our new U-verse box can record 4 shows at once instead of 2 (like the DISH). A negative if you use the music channels is that they aren't SIRIUS channels and the music selections really stink.:sad2:

We have had it for three months now and absolutely love it! Not even counting the $290 in rebates that we got for trying it, it is much cheaper than what we had with cable. The whole house DVR is great, allowing you to watch recorded programs on any connected TV in the house. Plus the internet speeds are right at what they say they are, unlike our cable company who overstated their speeds by a wide margin.

I think that you would not be disappointed with trying them out.

How do you delete shows? We just got UVerse and I can't figure it out.

Thanks,
Maggie

To delete shows, go to main DVR box. Hit "recorded TV" button on remote. You can either delete from the main menu (where the whole list is displayed) by clicking the "delete" button on bottom left of your remote OR click on each show individually and scroll down and choose "erase" option.

When we first got it our service was horrible. It was freezing all the time. After 5-6 visits they finally got it fixed and our service was good (this was Feb 08 when we got it).

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago our service started acting up again. Last week I had 3 technicians out. I guess the last one knew what he was doing because it is working good again.

As for price it's not bad. I pay now what I used to pay before seperately with Comcast (internet) and directv but I now have more channels. We have all the movie channels.

I had it for about 2 months last year and it kiept freezing up on us. always at the worst time. The kickert to getting rid of it came when it fropze during the superbowl when that great play was made with the ball being caught and held onto. Can't tell you who did it I am not a fan.
I switched back to Optimum and got the $29.99 package. But now my year is up and they want to raise the price to $145 a month.
I am switching back to AT&T and hope they have fixed the problems. They have installed those huge boxes all over the neighborhood since I dropped it so I am hoping the reception is better. It will cost me $114 a month now.
The biggest problem is that now I have to pay for those boxes for all the tvs where with Optimum if the tv was cable ready I could hook the cable right to the TV.. That saved me $8 each tv when I returned the boxes and remotes.

I don't know how many you need but 3 are included at no extra charge--one of those being a DVR. Then for each one after the 3 its $5 a month.

When we were with Directv we had to pay additional for all receivers after the 1st one.

New policy for new users here in Michigan is one free box. It was $5 per box after but they just sent a notice that its going up to $7

It really stinks because we had it at our old house and got in with the no charges for boxes but when we moved (and it was 6 months after we got the u-verse at the old house) they said the new policy is no free boxes except the first one. They wouldnt honor our old agreement because they dont really 'transfer' service. You start out like brand new

That sucks.

We are switching to u-verse here. From people I have talked to, it depends on the area on how good the service is.

The poster who said Dish DVR's never lock up.. ours does all the time. One time our Dish DVR hard drive crashed and we lost all of our recorded content.

For me the bottom line was price and speed. I can get a faster internet connection and comparable phone and tv service for about $30 less than what I pay now for those services total. You do have to price it out though because the advertised prices are for the slow internet connection, comparable to the slow DSL option most providers offer.

And that $5 charge per box... are you guys referring to the bandwidth charge per month? Dish has that same type of charge, so do most providers now.
