Anyone have any thoughts on air fryers?

Off to do research, we have had a Breville cappuccino maker for a few years now and it's a solid reliable brand that has saved a fortune in making coffee.

We are HEAVY toaster oven users. Like, several times a day, every day. Our first Smart Oven lasted us 8 years. Every other one before it had to be replaced every 2 years or less. It is a solid brand.

I hope you don't mind me piggybacking off your question. We have a Power Airfryer XL.. I use it a lot. My only issue is capacity. Even thought it's the XL, if you are doing waffle or crinkle fries for 3 or more, they are piled on top of each other. I would love something where you can fit a lot more in single layer, or maybe even have two separate layers at a time? Also, there is one that also does toast?? My toaster is 24 years old. If I could combine the two and ditch both, I could justify a new air fryer. Do some of you have something (the Breville maybe) that would do both?

I may be the only disenter but I don't like it. My son makes chicken wings but that could easily be done in the oven. I just am not into gadgets.
I'm not either. I wouldn't get one that only was an air fryer. But the oven ones are great because they preheat in 60 seconds and can cook frozen pizzas (way more efficiently than my oven), toast bagels, etc. Mine gets used multiple times a day and my oven rarely gets used.

I love my Air Fryer. We've had it about 2 years and use it at least 3 or more times a week. In the summer, I love that I can fix things like fries without heating up the kitchen with the oven.

I don't have an air fryer, but I have a convection oven. It made more sense to me because (a) I don't need another appliance on my countertop, and (b) we're a big family (6, but only 5 live here). So, we'd be doing stuff in batches or piling food up, like elgerber said.

Someone who only cooks for 1 or 2 people would be fine with an air fryer. I know a lot of people rave about them, but you have to think about how it would fit in with how you cook (and, literally, how it would fit in your kitchen).

I have convection oven so no need for one. Grill marks, easy I just heat my cast iron grill pan before putting the meat on. A good oven will not give off heat unless the door is open. I use mine year round with 0 issues.

You need air circulation for an oven to work properly, that means that air has to come in and the only way to do that is to allow air out. Via a vent, usually at the top of your oven cavity.
It has nothing to do with a good oven, it's all about physics.
Not to mention that the oven does heat up the appliance, so the cooktop does give off heat into the room, especially when you are cooking at a high temp for a prolonged period of time.
So yes, an oven being on can throw heat into your kitchen.

you are correct with a regular convection oven, I should have been more specific. Try a double walled twin convection oven, emits less heat than a candle.

I agree that it mostly could be done in the oven. Especially if you have a confection option. But it is nice for speed and ease of cleanup. But I don't agree with those that think nuggets or fries taste a million times better. I could do just as well in the confection oven, albeit with more time and attention. But for a quick, mess-less option, I do love ours. In does just as well with raw chicken and fish with a little seasoning, roast veggies, etc.

The Breville I have (the $269 Smart Oven) can make 4 servings of fries at once. It fits a 1/4 sheet pan. It can also toast 6 slices of standard sized sandwich bread or 6 bagel halves at once. I use it to make garlic bread and can basically fit an entire cut up french baguette at once. And this is not even the largest Breville Smart oven.

If you want to double layer, you will need the Smart Oven Air, which comes with a deeper air fry basket and a second rack.

I have a Cuisinart TOA-65 and I love it. It's a combination toaster oven and air fryer. I replaced my regular Breville toaster oven (which I also loved) with it. I considered the Breville version, but it was another $100+ more. I was worried that my Cuisinart wouldn't be able to toast bread and bagels as well as my Breville but it does :). It's a large appliance but we use it nearly every single day.

I tried the regular Ninja air fryer but it was way too small for just 2 of us.

I don't have one, but my mother had one. She initially loved it and used it for most everything. She said the fries were delicious in the air fryer.
Then, she quit using it? She said that she can do most all of her cooking using her regular over/microwave. It just seemed like another appliance that she did not need, all this after the "new" wore off, LOL.
So, she gave it away to a family member.
But she regularly buys the newest fad, and always gets tired of it quick. Maybe it's just her personality? IDK.

I have one but I only use it for fries, onion rings and chicken nuggets. They come out hot and crispy every time, plus very quick!

I've had mine for a year now. I use it more than I use my regular oven.

Sam’s has the ninja foodi air fryer oven for $140 which is a great price.

I bought one, but it seemed to have an enormous footprint on my counters without doing much. I have a convection oven, and for most cooking, even for 2, that works better. When DS22 moved back out last month, I sent the air fryer with him. He likes it, and I think it has a place with single people who want to heat a small amount of convenience food without using an oven.

You all talked me into a Ninja Foodi! My DH has wanted an air fryer for years and when i showed it to my oldest to DD to get her thoughts she said,, “if you don‘t get it for him, get it for me.” So that sold it. It will be a whole family gift. I was a little concerned about how much counter space it will take up but I measured our space and I think it will be fine.
