Anyone have any idea why a marketing research company is harassing us?

I am completely dumbfounded by the whole situation you're in with the company.

I'm a stay at home mom and make a nice chunk of change by doing marketing research surveys/studies. I'm always on the lookout for a new company to work with. I've been doing this for about a year and half, and I must say I've NEVER had a problem with any of them. I'm curious as to what company is doing this to you (so I know to stay FAR away from them).

I admire your restraint, if I were in the same position I wouldn't be so nice. It's b.s. that they keep saying they're going to continue to call you until they get their answers. Who does that? They mustn't me to good of a research company if they're calling the same person over and over again. There are plenty of sites out there where people (like me) are always looking to get into Market Research co's (as a bunch of them do pay/compensate you in some form for respond). Just leads me to believe that this company is nothing but a scam.

Sounds like this company employed someone who is a few fries short of a Happy Meal. You may want to talk to a lawyer or someone knowledgable in your state's law to see if this possibly constitutes stalking.

Thanks, Nana Annie, for the good advice. Wouldn't want a lawsuit coming out of this!

As much as I love the air horn idea, RickinNYC may have the best suggestion .. find out who they are doing their research for, contact that company directly, and let them know what kind of tactics they're employing.

I don't remember who said it, but someone mentioned something about when they say "a couple of minutes of your time" that usually stretches into 10 times that or more. What about doing something like this. After you tell them you can't or don't want to but they persist, tell them "okay, I can spare two minutes." Then when it reaches something more than that -- say, 5 minutes -- and they aren't finished, tell them you can't stay on the phone and you have to go. Then hang up. This brings up a question for market researchers on here -- would that mean those responses would have to be tossed out and the researcher would have to start over, or would they be able to use what answers they have?

It can't be an easy job and I know I wouldn't want it. The ones calling for an opinion survey aren't so bad (got a call from that McLaughlin guy on PBS a while back), but the ones that say they aren't selling anything but it leads into that they are or they want to introduce you to someone that is ... well, those are beyond annoying.

I have a young voice and my parents still to this day make me answer the phone when I'm visiting so I use my favorite line that I've been using since I was 11.

Marketer: "Is Kimberly there?"
Me: in a quiet hushed tone....no....she's dead
Marketer: what about your daddy
Me: noo, he's dead
Marketer: ummm, is anyone over 18 there?
Me: nope
then they hang up

no, I can barely shop at radio shack because of it. They just won't take no for an answer. I won't even get those frequent shopper cards all the stores want you to sign up for because I refuse to have 900 cards in my wallet. But we are listed.

I seem to do fine with telling them it's unlisted. The reason they ask for the phone number is to cross reference in the RL Polk directories to mail you coupons, anyway.

Radio Shack gets my old old old phone number from Maryland!

It's a marketing research company and I know it's crazy, but I'm hesitating to say it's name. I mean, last thing I want to do is get myself in trouble over this. I'm not sure how that would happen, but sometimes I don't think things through.... :)

It doesn't matter, I'll win the battle with this evil entity!!! :furious:

I'm just trying to understand why they think it's a good use of their time!
We have recieved at least a dozen calls from an organization called Synovate National. It took threatening to call attorney general to get the name out of her. Every time they call I repeat "we are on the no call list.Remove us from your call list" then I hang up. Do they actually think one day we will go hey, these guys are sure persistent guess I will talk to them? No logic at all!
