This is sort of budget related...I've been saving up gift money from birthdays, Xmas, etc and it's burning a hole in my pocket. I was playing with an iPad a couple of weeks ago at the Apple store, and it seemed like a really cool device.

Do you have an iPad? If so, what are the normal things you use it for? Do you tend to use it for more than web-browsing? (Because a cheap netbook would suffice for that purpose.) Are there any things you DON'T like about it?

edited to add: Does anyone miss the lack of Flash? If so, why?

My Dh bought me one for my birthday last month. I love it. I love techie toys and this one is my fav! I play games on it, surf the web, read books (nook and Kindle), check facebook, and email. I love the size (so much smaller than my laptop). It easily fits in my Vera Bradley Betsy bag.

The things I don't like are:
you have to buy a keyboard seperate
My family is always asking to use it :lmao:
When I use it in public people are always asking about it. :lmao:

Both my dh and I have one. I use mine to surf the net in bed, read books, play games and watch movies. My kids also use it sometimes for school purposes. We just downloaded a spelling app that my son used last night to study for his spelling test. I am going on a trip the first week of December and I am looking forward to having it on the plane and in the hotel while I am relaxing.

My dh also plays games, watches movies and surfs the net. He also uses his for work. He travels frequently and has downloaded an app so that he can take notes in meetings. He can later email the notes and can save them. This eliminates the need for him to have actual notebooks and he can keep everything in one place. He also has it set up to work with the exchange server so he can get his work email on it.

Neither of us have a 3G version, just WiFi.
We both agree that it is the best electronic item we have purchased in a long time.

Thanks for the replies. I added a question on to my original post: Does anyone miss the lack of Flash? If so, why?

I have had my Ipad since early summer. I do not usually like techie things but LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my ipad. My husband figures it is the most used gift he has ever gotten me. Flash drive would be nice but I still love it. I never get on the computer at home any more. On the ipad I can get on the web so quickly, love using it in bed at night and when I travel, read books, watch movies, and play games. Maybe it is just me, but I would never trade in my ipad for a netbook. Yeah, I know, can you tell I LOVE my ipad.:cool1:

We have the 16GB wifi-only iPad. We mainly use it as an extra portable TV around the house to wirelessly stream movies (Netflix) and TV shows (Hulu Plus). We do very little web browsing with it other than to read news and weather sites. We use a stand for it so we can view it without having to hold it.

I guess I'm in the minority. I have it. I like it. But I don't LOVE it. Maybe that's because I have an iPhone too?

I'd like to read on it...but I don't buy books, LOL! I use paperback swap. I don't miss flash. Of course I'm used to that with the iPhone.

I have the 64GB wifi. I do plan on using it with clients at some point.

We have one. DH takes it on the bus with him, for reading and listening to music. He also uses it to listen to music in his cube (he's a software tester, so there are often periods when they are deep into coding that everyone is listening to something in their ears). When it is home, we use it to watch stuff through the ABC player, and Netflix. I play games like Angry Birds and Toy Story Mania. We take it with us when we are out and about, and use it to connect to free Wi-Fi (we do not have a smart phone). It's also nice to take to friends/family houses because you can connect to their WiFi, but not have to use their equipment. We have the 3G one, but as of yet have not had to use the 3G, because we have been able to just use WiFi. That will change in Dec, when we go to the grandparents' houses for Christmas. No WiFi there :goodvibes.

Missing Flash...90% of the time, it's fine. Most of the "not fine" comes from ESPN3.com not working on the iPad because it's Flash based. But if you don't care about being able to watch college football or English Premiere League soccer on your iPad, you should be fine. Also, since Hulu is flash it doesn't work on the iPad. BUT...as previously mentioned, you can purchase a Hulu app that does work. But it's not "free" like loading up Hulu on your computer.

I am with you... its ok... but we have Iphones and Itouches...and they just seem like a big Itouch to me... we sold it on ebay 3 months after we got it.

I have both an iPhone and iPad and love my iPad (it is much easier on my aging eyes)...I use it for reading books, checking e-mail, surfing the web, and playing games, but one thing I love about it is the adaptor you can get (for about $30) which allows me to download pics from my camera while we are on vacation, and use my iPad as a backup (in case anything happened to my camera or SD card)...I just download the pics every evening and can view them immediately! :cool1:

Both of my boys have one, and they love it. Younger DS uses it mostly to play games on, and do some homework. Older DS uses his more - he watches movies, does homework, and surfs the web on it. I am non electronically gifted, but I have used their IPADs, and was very impressed. I didn't know you could read books on them - I may have to get one for me! Glad to know about the photo app - we were thinking about buying that.
