DH and I have been considering purchasing an Airstream for the last year or so. Possibly a used Airstream Bambi (its just us, no kids). We have a Toyota Tundra, so shouldn't have any towing issues.

Anyone out there have an Airstream? Any opinions to share?

My friend bought a used Airstream a couple years ago to fix up. Still sitting there he is about to put a for sale sign on it. Now he just wants to buy a new one and go camping.

While I have never owned an Airstream, I have been in quite a few. Personally, I find them a little claustrophobic because of the rounded ceilings - but that's me.

Airstream owners are very loyal to the brand & wouldn't consider anything else. I don't know how things are given the current economy - but you very rarely saw a used Airstream for sale - unless the owner died & the kids were trying to get rid of it from the estate.

I say, if you like it, get one! But, before you do, thoroughly check the storage capability of the Bambi. If you can only pack a weekend's worth of clothes - step up to the next size. The Bambi's one tiny unit!

There are a lot of campers (ultralights and hybrids) that will give you more room than the Bambi for the same weight and much lower cost. The biggest mistake that most folks make when buying their first camper is getting one too small. If there is the slightest possibility of expanding the family in the future, it might be good to have a little extra elbow room!

That being said, Airstreams will last forever if taken care of properly! Whatever you decide, just get camping!:thumbsup2
