Anyone have a young child with a brain trauma/injury?

Oh My, I am so happy i found this thread!!! First i am so sorry about your daughter. There are many great organizations recommend, and I would also add Pedatric stroke network. I live in philadelphia, and have an awesome children's hospital CHOP. My son is a pedatric stroke survivor and is now 13 years old. I never find anyone who is in the same boat as us. He has seizures and we are now looking at brain surgery to stop them. I am also a special education teacher. There is alot of hope. There is not alot of info on pedatric stroke, or the long-term affects.

Thank you all for the support. She got her bone flap put back in just a little over a week ago and has done very, very well since then. We are most likely going to be transferred to Our Childrens House at Baylor Medical this week. She has full function on her left side and we have started to see a tiny bit of movement on her right side. Shenplays and interacts normally with family and does OK with hospital staff. She had surger this past Friday to have a Mic-Key G-tube placed in her abdomen and she has been eating some pureed baby food by mouth. That has been a bit of a struggle, and I think it will be for a while.

Praying for your DD!

I am so glad it sounds like she is making improvements. My DD has a Mic-Key button as well (has had it for about six months now)...it is so much better than the NG tube. She is fed continually by pump right now but we are slowly working on weaning her off the 24/7 feeds and on to over night feeds. The gtube will definitely be a lifesaver for your daughter.

Sarah, Keeping your little girls recovery in my prayers.

I'm so sorry about your daughters injury. Please PM me. I have a friend who two children both suffered traumatic brain injuries in a car accident. It's been several years now and both have recovered well but are still working on improving. They are actually the children's miracle network ambassadors for NJ. Their Mom is great and I'm sure would be willing to offer any support she can.
