My 11 DD has been saying she's tired all week. She has a headache, sore throat, no fever. I took her to the docter yesterday, so far the mono test came back negative. But their is another result that we won't find out about until Monday.
The doctor said she may have to get re-tested next week if continues.

My just-turned-13 yr DD has mono, but we got the results from her blood test pretty quickly and it was definitely positive.

They really don't do anything, no meds, just rest, depending on how she feels. They said no contact sports for 6 months (thank goodness soccer season was just ending!)

Good luck

Our DD12 had it when she was 8, they are pretty sure she caught it at school... we were told she actually had 2 varieties of it at the same time, plus a 3rd thing. Not sure on the name of the 3rd thing, something like Mica plasism (sp). Thankfully it was right at the end of the school year, so she had the summer to rest up. She was a pretty sick girl. :(

Edited to erase--Ooops!

Sorry--I didn't want to hijack your thread--Started my own :teeth:

DS had it when he was 12. The pediatrician said he probably got it from sharing a can of soda or a bottle of water at soccer practice.

Ugh Mono. I dont wish that on anyone. I got it about two years ago, 28 at the time, and it was the worst thing I ever had. I was sicker than I have ever been in my life, was weak, had no energy, couldn't walk without help, felt like my body was dying, slept like 20 hours a day, and was out of work for almost 3 months. The doctor did tell me that the older you are the worst it is. But I wouldn't even want a fraction of it.

Get your DDs results and find out what she has for sure. There really isn't much you can do for Mono besides rest, but you want to make sure she gets the right diagnosis. I was misdiagnosed in the begining and the meds they gave me worked against me and made things worst. Took about a week, 2 ER visits and 3 doctor visits to figure out that I had Mono. Plus as a bonus I had HepA at the same time. How lucky was I? Yep, I had the cooties!

Mono is not fun. Maybe your DD just has a nasty bug instead. Hopefully you will find out what she has and she can get over it quickly. Good luck!

My oldest daughter, now 14, caught it at 4!! They figure she got it from a public water fountain. She was one sick child for quite some time....sore throat, swollen glands, extremely tired....and to top it all off, she must of come in contact with a chicken pox virus at the doctor's office (we weren't anywhere once she was diagnosed!). She had these huge welts and was more sore than itchy. :sad1: Also, for several years following this, until her body was big enough to fight things off better, anytime she became run down or sick, she showed every sign of the mono (without being contagious). They also told me that she won't ever catch it again...it's like the chicken pox...she'll always test positive for it but never be contagious with it once she was over the first round.
