Anyone have a No Solicitors sign??

I do and it works for me! I used to get a knock on the door nearly every day. Now I have only had one in six months and he was a kid.

My MIL had one.....actually it said "No solicitors or religious fanatics".

She took it down about the 10th time some little kid came to the door selling magazines or candy bars for school or Little League, oh, and the guy running for the City Council pointed out he was neither a solicitor or a religious fanatic!

Our sheriff's department did a big campaign about 6 months ago saying that 'No legitimate business in this internet age sends salespeople door to door". I keep a copy of that by the front door, but haven't had a chance to show it to anyone recently.
Since my 19 year old registered to vote last year she has been bombarded with weekly phone calls, and people at the door about once a month encouraging her to vote by mail. A certain political party is really pushing this, apparently because registered members of this party pretty much stay away from the polls for midterm elections, and that party could lose control of the House and Senate this November.

Had one at our last house. Didn't seem to work. We haven't put it back up since moving and we've had no one knock on our door yet.

I almost think it was like a dare.

Never had to. House was at the top of a steep hill. Because of terracing a person walking door to door had to walk up a hill to a house, go back to the street (no cutting across lawns with 12 ft. drops), walk to next house, climb back up hill, etc.

I had a very sweet elderly Jehovah's Witness lady who came twice. A few of the neighborhood kids would come by, but only the ones that were right next door or across the street.

I also had a glass front door and had two wild cocker spaniels barking like crazy and thowing themselves at the door (they wanted to go out and get petted). Really didn't have a problem with solicitors.

I don't have any solicitors in my condo either. You have to use so many security codes to get past the gate and elevator plus guard that it is not a problem. A stranger going door to door would probably generate a 911 call in this building.

I've never needed to. Hardly anybody comes to doors here..and when they do I just don't answer it.

Ouch! This one stikes home.

This year we had a sudden rash of not-nice-and-quite-suspicious door to door "magazine" sales people. Our town does not give permits for door-to-door sales.

We also got quite a few religious folk -- don't want to define the religion(s). Apparently, "no soliciting" does not apply to "religious folk" You have to define "no solicitations AND no religious enquiries." Avoid the word "fanatic."

But even that sign that does not seem to keep out the politicians or the quasi-roofers! :lmao:

I finally nailed a "No Trespassing" sign, together with a "No Soliciting" and a "No Religious Enquiries" sign to a convenient tree at the end of my very long drive. "No Trespassing" seems to apply to all. At the very least, it does give me permission to be royally ticked off if anyone I do not want to talk to comes to the door. "Did you not SEE the sign? You are trespassing!" Cell in hand to call the police.

I do really not like having the signs up but it was a desperate measure. I work from home and they were wasting my valuable time. Some might also have been *casing the joint.* I hope not, but it is in the back of my mind.

I have a large one by my driveway. You can't miss it! But what get's me is when people ask what it means :headache:. Do they not teach these words anymore?

We have one at our office, but it does not slow down the sales people.

We have one. Only problem was a couple of Halloweens ago we forgot to take it down for the night. I was sitting here with tons of candy and not one knock. Around 7, we figured out what was the matter and took it down. But, it does typically work.

Ours helps. We work at home and we'd sometimes get 2 solicitors a day. I've only had 4 approach the door in the year since I put the sign up. One was a high school girl begging for school trip money. She say "I'm blah blah with the high school soccer team, have you read about us?" I said "No, have you read my sign?" She huffed and said "That was rude." I could only laugh.

Best thing I ever did was to put up a sign! I have a handwritten sign taped facing out in the window right above our doorbell. It's about 8X5 with - "NO SOLICITORS unless you are a child from the development". I have no issue buying from scouts/neighborhood kids or participating in their food drives etc.(or at least listening to them), but the number of people selling door to door, especially when it was already getting dark, was riduculous. Also, when my kids were younger and napped, no one would pay attention to the "DO NOT RING THE BELL 1-4" sign. But the NO SOLICITORS sign has been very effective. I've seen people heading up the sidewalk turn around.

I do - it works for the most part... except for a month or so ago when I got ina fight with a solicitor who refused to leave. He claimed all he wanted to do was put a sign in my yard and I could make $10K. He also said "all your neighbors are doing it". I tried to be nice - but then I ended up shutting the door in his face.

But other than that - he is really the only one who ignored my sign... and the kids have seen people walk up, read it, and walk away.

I know someone who made their own sign that said something like "If I'm not expecting you, you might get shot. Do you feel lucky?" :rotfl:

PP--your post reminds me of a sign for sale in a local gun shop, "Ignore dog, beware of owner!"
