I am thinking about getting this camera because I do a lot of sports pics of my kids and I like to also do video. The specs say you can snap a pic while shooting video.
I have a pentax K100 and it takes nice pics, but I have to switch to another device to do video, so I thought the Nikon would work nice for me.

so If anyone has one, what do you think of it?

Ok its been awhile since i bought a new camera! I see other models also let you snap a still shot while doing video.
Seems this nikon doesnt get the best reviews. Will keep looking!

You might check out the Panasonic GH2 or the Olympous OM-D. The GH2 having stronger video but the OM-D having a stabelized body for stills and video. The GH2 video magic requires a software update to fully unleash. You would want to look into it before buying,...

My wife has a J1 and loves it. But she does not take sport shots. I have not played with it to see if it works well with sports. Great little camera though!

There is a Mirrorless thread here for users of the J1 and similar cameras. I don't know if we have anyone who's been doing a lot of sports, though. I have both types but tend to do my son's sports with the dSLR. If you want to shoot sports, especially indoors (gymnastics, right?), you will need to get a fast lens or two, and not just the kit lens. Sports can be tough with any camera.

Thank you I will check those out

Of course for sport pictures a DSLR might be the best choice...
I do get good pics, and I don't even have a fast lens yet, but I like to video too. so I thought if I had a camera that took decent pics and could shoot video at the same time that would be good

thanks, I have been intrigued with it since it came out awhile ago. while my kids were in the video department at target the other day, I played with one and am now more intrigued, LOL
