I had a 2008 Ford Escape that I never had any issues with. Then I won a 2011 Kia Sportage so I sold the Escape. In order to start the Kia you would have to press the brake and then press a button (no Key to turn). I took the vehicle to the dealership to have something replaced, I want to say it was the rotors. When I went to leave the brake pedal would not depress, so it would not start. It took the mechanic an hour to figure out what was wrong. When it was finally started the guy kind of mumbled something about some part I don't remember the name ( I am going to call it the brake plug because that is what comes to mind). Well within a few weeks I had the same issue but I managed to get the car started by pressing the emergency brake. A few days later and the same issue but I couldn't get the car to start. My Dad came with his Ford F250 and he said the battery was dead. Hooked it up to his truck and...nothing. It didn't start, it wasn't the battery. Had the tow truck come, driver says the battery is dead he hooks it up to his portable jump starter and... nothing. The car didn't start, it wasn't the battery. I call the dealership and let them know that I really need my car for work the next morning, they tell me that I am out of luck they are leaving in a few minutes and they won't be able to look at it until tomorrow. The next afternoon I call they tell me the battery was dead and as soon as it got there last night they jumped it and it was "fine, not a thing wrong with it just a dead battery". Of course I knew it wasn't the battery, I knew it wasn't before the first time it was jumped. I picked the car up and find all these parts strewn across the front seat. I bring them home and look up the parts number and find it is those brake plugs. "So why are these parts in my car if you didn't have to do anything to it but give it a jump start? Why didn't you call me immediately when you knew I needed my car for work early in the morning? I could have come and picked it up" No explanation given. They had nothing to say. very shortly there after, I would say maybe the next day but definitely with in the next week my car starts acting really funny. I use the cruise control quite often to prevent myself from speeding on my hour and a half drive to work, well the cruise control is shutting off and the vehicle is losing it's speed constantly. Even without the cruise control on the vehicle will suddenly lose speed. The only way to get acceleration back was to tap the brake pedal. I did not take the car back to the same dealership, instead I took it to another a little further from home. Over the next 2 months I had the car in the dealership every week. The stereo stopped working and they said it needed to be replaced. It took about a month when I took the car in for the 30 minute change off the radios there was another gentleman with the same model and year Kia getting his radio replaced. They come out and tell him they ordered the wrong radio and they would have to reorder. About 15 minutes later I get the same news. They some how got my radio to work so I could now use it but they still ordered a new one and replaced it.
One night I hear pounding on my door at 2am. I look out the window and see my neighbors and I can see the brake lights are on. Apparently they had been on for hours and my neighbors thought maybe something was wrong and I was injured in the car (the back windows were tinted but they thought the front were also). This happens several more times over the course of a few weeks and the dealership never can figure out what is wrong.
After a year and a half in Kia hell I finally traded in for a 2013 Ford Escape and I am back to my happy place. I did install a back up camera because now that I had one in the Kia I don't think I'll ever go back to not having one. Just an FYI a camera installed in your rear view mirror costs about $400 and installed in your little dash board computer thing costs about $800. Ford charges about $1500-$2000 save yourself some cash and have it installed yourself.
