I want to buy my DH a kegerator for a combined Father's day/Bday gift. I've done a lot of research and it seems like many of the brands at places like Home Depot and Sams have difficulty keeping the keg at the proper temperature. Problems seem to be with the Danby and Vassanni (sp) brands.

I know it can keep a keg for a couple of months. If you could tell me the brand or model and whether you like it I'd greatly appreciate it.

Sorry, no help here. Subscribing because I plan on surprising DH with one when he begins building his bar in our basement!

You'd think it would be a straight forward purchase but it's more complicated than I anticipated. Keeping the keg cold enough seems to be a major problem for many of easy to find brands.

LOL I have no idea but I love the name Kegerator....so reminds me of Dr Doofenschmirtz and his 'erator' inventions....LOL My favorite was the "eratorerator" that turned things into "erator"s. LOL

How much beer do you have drink to have a keg on hand without the beer going bad?

You can buy a 1/2 or 1/4 keg and it can keep up to 4 months. It actually turns out to be pretty economical (at least that's the argument he is making:goodvibes)

OK, I think i am out of the loop. We were looking at these last year, but I thought the only beer was Heineken? Has that changed? Off to do research

ETA--Never mind. I was thinking of the Beertender. I would love one of those, but wish there were more brands.

I had always heard the life of an open keg was closer to 30 days. That's why I never considered one. Too much beer for me. LOL

I have a "Beertender" and it is only Heineken and Heineken Light.

You can buy other brands of 5 liter kegs that fit in your fridge but they won't work with the Beertender.

There are products like the Beertender that have the little kegs you see in the stores. I think they're 5L.

Research kegerator. It looks like a small refrigerator with a tap on top. They have a Co2 canister and can last quite awhile. Most don't accomodate a full keg but a half or 1/4 keg. You can get quite a variety from your local liquor store. I went to a local store that specializes in people who brew their own beer. They have a Summit Kegerator that is nice but close to $1000. I don't want to spend that much. The 300-400 dollar units seem to be the ones that have trouble keeping the beer cold enough. I'd like to find something inbetween that someone has experience with.

We love our kegerator. We bought if off of ebay from a local seller that buys dented ones. Costco sells them as well.

Ours is a Haier with a single tap. We have had it a year. My sister has had hers for over 5 years and never had a problem.
