Anyone have a guaranteed week?

If so, just curious how this works.

I have Aug UY, looking at GW in week 52 but my guide says that would be a Dec UY,.

Does anyone else have experience and is this correct?

I had assumed that if you opted out of the GW and had points, they would just be in my account for Aug UY, rather than Dec?

You can have a GW with any UY. I bet the guide is not familiar with GWs since they are less common. But it is important you pick the right UY in case you do decide to opt out of the week.

I asked my guide to double-check and was told:

"You can still flex and opt out from your guaranteed week – but your Use year to use those points will run from December 1 to November 30th.

The only way to get a Guaranteed week with an August Use Year – would be to choose a guaranteed week in the month of August."

I wanted week 52 with Aug UY.........

That is not correct. I have a SEP UY and have 3 FWs - 44,47,and 48. You can have any UY for a Guaranteed Week, though as noted above, make sure it works for your intended travel timeframes and that you’ll have time to bank after you cancel if needed (which you will with an Aug UY and week 52).

I would talk with a different guide. There is no requirement for a GW and UY to be in the same month. I have seen several GW for sale with different UYs.

Definitely not correct I just bought a fixed week at RIV #52 also and it’s in my April UY. I really had to advocate for it because they were giving me a hard time about it also being a December UY. I explained that I’d know if I was going to cancel the fixed week it would usually be 31 days out which would put me right at my April banking deadline of end of November. You would be even safer than me having an Aug UY. If you want my guide’s info pm me. She had no clue about selling a fixed week either but listened and advocated for me to her higher ups and in the end got me exactly what I wanted. Now she has experience in FWs

I recently tried to buy a Riviera GW week 52 studio, standard or preferred and was told they were sold out. I ended up buying 200 Riv points, but am still in my window. Curious if they can find some more weeks. Maybe as they declare more RIV points they will have more to sell?

I've been stalking resale FWs for a long time. I've seen December with October UY often.

Heck, there's one for sale on the board sponsor right now for October with an April UY.

The problem with the August UY is that they claim they stopped courtesy banking, so you'd lose a year of points, unless you're going to use them this summer. With the Oct/Dec, it isn't too late to bank them.

Wow, so, one person has a guide who won't bank 2020 points, and you've got a guide who won't figure out how to sell a fixed week. It'd be better if they were consistent, but this is just painful.

Isn't it great they offer "guides" to take you down the wrong path?

I have a December UY and a FW in July. It is actually hard to have a FW in the same month as your UY, especially if you want say, the first week of December with a December UY. Sometimes your week would start in November, and sometimes your week would start in December. They would not sell you a FW that spans two use years, so you would not be able to buy it with a December UY.

Yes, as more inventory is declared, more GWs become available. But I guess the questions for you to consider would be: when will they next declare more inventory and how many price increases will happen while waiting.

I have a FW for week 40 (early October - but it's always in October) and have an October UY. At the time of contract signing, I had contracts in both March and October UYs and was told I could do the FW in either. DH and I wanted the FW to be in October as we were and have since sold the remaining March UYs. My 'guide' didn't know much about FWs but I sure did thanks to reading lots of info here previously.

I'm glad you got what you wanted. But lol at them making an "exception" for something that is standard practice.
