Anyone have a good/great recent Poly stay (non-concierge)?

Stole this question from another poster about another resort, I am really trying to figure out what to expect at the Poly. We now have a ressie for the Poly and WL and I have to decide which one to keep.

We stayed in Fiji - garden view, 3rd floor facing the marina. I told the CM at the front desk that would be my dream room. From the balcony we saw Space Mt., the Contemporary and the Electric Water Pageant. The walk to Capt. Cooks took just a few seconds- Fiji is really close to the GCH.

We loved that Capt. Cooks is open 24 hours. We would get back from the parks late- like at 1 or 2am and walk over to fill our mugs and buy a snack. The same CM was always working there- he was sooo nice, he would always be talking to guests, asking where they were from, etc. We definitly got good use out of our mugs. Did you see anything going on for young kids?...We are going to try to get tokolou(sp)...Cant wait to make use of that monorail!

Mine was the GF one.

I had to reply. Our stay wasn't recent, it was in 1999, but the Poly CM's were wonderful. I was about 2 months pregnant and when we arrived at WDW the all day morning sickness was in full swing. There were a couple days I was pretty much confined to the room. Then my DH had a bug that developed into acute bronchitis. He and I had a babysitter one night and ended up taking DH to the urgent care over by Crossroads. Can you believe it? We still had a wonderful time. DS was 3 1/2 at the time.

I'm tempted to go back but I like trying new resorts. DH had a bartender there who made virgin strawberry frozen drinks for me, DH would go fetch 'em when I needed one (ice kinda helped). One day I ordered room service when I passed on the parks and was alone in our room. I was telling the CM that delivered it that I wasn't feeling well and he said they could make some chicken noodle soup for me (wasn't on the menu, at that time anyway). He got me some, like "homemade" and I ordered that a few times - it was great!

Also got "alohas" from CM's around the resort often and a free upgrade from garden to a water view.

Have a great time. I love WL too, the themeing is absolutely beautiful but when I stayed there I felt fine and was always out in the parks, didn't interact a whole lot with the WL CM's. WL room is smaller and I give the Poly the edge if you have young children because of the monorail. The boat from the WL to MK is a nice ride but there's nothing like rolling a stroller right on the monorail (never made us fold it up).

We were at the Poly in August, between hurricane Charlie and Frances (got very lucky). It was beautiful, my DW, DS and I loved the resort. The grounds are beautiful, it's on the lake overlooking MK, watched the fireworks from there, and the pool was great. We did the "Spirit of Aloha" and thought it was worth the money. Even our picky eater DS found something to eat. We would stay there again.

I had a perfectly lovely stay in October. CMs, room, grounds, location (everything!) was terrific. We were in Samoa, bottom floor facing the volcano pool. Having stayed in just about every deluxe on Disney property, I'd go back to the Poly in a heartbeat. Really, though, don't just take anyone's word for it, good or bad. First think about your style/accomodations preferences and try to find a place that matches that, and go check out the other ones that interest you while you're there. If you hate laid back Polynesian theming, the Poly is the wrong place for you. If not, you've got heaven on earth, IMO.

BF and I had a wonderful stay 12/3-12/11. We stayed in Aotearoa, 3rd floor, lagoon view. We had a picture perfect view of the castle! Mousekeeping was fantastic, we had towel animals every morning! The room was clean and in good repair, all the CM's were wonderful! I did see kids activities in the loby once, and I want to say they have them by the pool sometimes, too, but I didn't see this. Being on the monorail is FANTASTIC!!! We used it to get to the CR for two differant PS's, touring the GF, and of course, to get to MK and Epcot. We spent a lot of time at those two parks, so we really got to use the monorail a lot. We also took the boat to/from MK on occasion, that was nice too.

BF only wants to stay at Poly for now on, but I talked him into GF for our honeymoon. Not because I didn't like the Poly, far from it, I loved it and will stay there again, happily! But I've always dreamed of staying at GF, and our honeymoon seems to be the perfect time to do so! PM or reply to this thread if you have any questions!

Edited to add: OMG!!! The food at the Kona Cafe is FANTASTIC! We never made it to O'Hana's, but Kona was TO DIE FOR!!! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or deserts, their food is incredible! Best kept secrect of WDW, if you ask me!

We had a wonderful, wonderful, stay in November. The atmosphere and theming are terrific. It is a very relaxing counter to the hectic nature of the parks.

We stayed in Samoa, Volcano Pool side, 1st Floor. We loved letting the kids out the back door when they wanted to go to the pool.

We loved the transportation options (my 3 year old loved the small boat launch ride back from the MK as much as any ride we were on). We loved the pool - the Volcano slide is on my top 10 experiences from our Disney trip. We couldn't get anywhere fast because my kids were transfixed by the ducks and bunny rabbits we saw each and every time we walked somewhere on the property. Breakfast at OHana's (the character breakfast) was awesome, as was OHana's for dinner, and our kids loved the Luau show (which suprised my wife and I because of the length of the show - close to 2 hours).

Complaints?, really none. I thought the showers were made for one of the seven dwarfs - I'm 6 ft and felt like I had to bend in half to take a shower. I thought the condition of the room was fine, but it's not like I got down on my knees looking for problems either. Cast members and bell hops were great. Only downer is the price, but my wife said she would stay at the Poly for what we paid even if it weren't part of WDW. Hope this helps, have fun! Tx5

We stayed December 4th to the 8th and it was a great trip. Extra soaps in the bathroom everyday. A Mickey mouse balloon showed up in our room one night. The maids and staff always said hi. Our room was great for us. We did not request a specific room. I was traveling with a 2 year old so location was key. I don't know the building but it was between the main house and the bus depot. We were first floor facing MK. It was a garden view but I really did not care. One bad thing was no leyes (sp?) when we checked in. When we arrived there was cartoons on. They had pictures to color on and some craft. My 2 year old was a little young. Ohana was exellent. We had a breakfast and dinner there. The coffee card was WAY over prices. The most expensive cup of coffee I had the whole trip. We would stay there again.
