Anyone have a convertible chair/bed?

I am *trying* to grab more studio space in our DD's old bedroom. She stays in the room when she visits tho , so need to keep a bed (twin is fine) available. While I would love a Murphy bed, it is not in the budget. I am looking for at least an 8' thick mattress/bed cushion and as few exposed frame pieces as possible (small room, I don't want to scrape a shin)
I have seen a few that could maybe work, but hoping some may have real life info to share.
I love this one but I can't find who carries it (looks like a lazyboy to me) know it is out of my budget

I also love how easy this is and compact, but the thickness is a little thinner than I'd hoped

We bought one similar to your 2nd pic. Everyone who tried to sleep on it said it was not comfortable. Also after using it a few times it never folded back up in the right way again. Now, we bought it at Target and it was pretty inexpensive. so maybe a better quality chair would be better.

I was at Costco this weekend and saw an ottoman that opened up into a twin bed for around $250. I doubt it can hold an 8" mattress, though. FWIW, we have a folding foam mattress from Costco for $50. It's maybe 4 thick, but its very comfy. I have a bad back and I can sleep fine on it - much better than an air mattress. Sorry the pic is so big I can't figure out how to make it smaller.

My husband had a week long recoveryvstay in the hospital d my father in law was in and out for months before he passed. Although they were hospital grade I've slept on quite a few of those similar style chairs.

If I were her I'd just sleep on the couch instead.

Sorry you had to test one out under those circumstances :( I had semi-slept on a love seat style one when my Mom was in her last days. I don't remember it being either comfortable or uncomfortable (I don't recall much other than my Mom during that time) so I wonder if the chair size one's are less comfy than the love seat size,,,hmmmm. Well, for now I just have it up against the wall (off the frame) on it's side. DH *might* make a frame to fit around it, sort of like a murphy bed concept, just without the rising/lowering mechanism etc. This way I will have the top of the outer frame to use like a dresser or cabinet top to hold stuff too. Thanks for the replies all, I guess I better just save the $ and go with a creative DIY solution.

We have a foam flip "chair" bed (from Sears) and while it's ok for kids sleepovers, I wouldn't use it for much more than that. What about a loft bed?

I thought about a loft bed but the spot I have would be too close to the window, as in right against one side and that would bug me big time. That window faces the street and I would see the frame form the outside. This particular room is the only one that get any decent sun during the day so I really don't want to block any of that precious gold lol

Would you consider an Aerobed? We have a raised one for guests. It's easy to set up, easy to store, and surprisingly comfortable.

*I* would, for sure, but DH wants to keep a twin bed...an actual bed..in there, I am hoping to get him to compromise with a decent convertible chair. DD only visits once a year, but usually for 2 weeks so I DO agree for her to have a comfy bed, but the other 340 days it's really in the way, lol. I will see what I come up with this weekend. I tried getting DH to let me sell the dresser and desk to open up more room that way but he says we will need that "when " we sell the house :lmao:. Yeeeaaahhhh...I have been trying to move from here for over 30 years  so not really believing him AND it wouldn't be for another 15 years after retirement (as if that is gonna happen anyway) Besides, the furniture is so out of date and too large for the room, a Realtor would say to get rid of it anyway and stage. I am reaching my breaking point as DD has been gone solid for 5 years and I am going to make use of that room for other than a museum to her H.S. years lol
