My friend cleans houses and does quite well for herself. I worked with her a couple of weeks ago on a 1 time only house. I let her know I wouldn't mind doing a little cleaning for some extra cash. Well, she called tonight to tell me she knows someone that wants their house done on Monday to get ready for the holiday and then every other Monday after that. My question is what do you expect from your cleaning person? I am nervous since this is my 1st cleaning job on my own so I am looking for any pointers I can get. I am waiting for her to call me back so we can go over the basics but would like to know what your cleaning person does when they clean your house.

My wonder woman cleans everything! Of course, she has four or five people come with her so the house is done in 90 minutes or so. The things they do in addition to the basic dusting, vacuuming, mopping and bathroom cleaning is: lambs wool all blinds, clean all ceiling fan blades and light fixtures, top of my bar cabinets (must stand on bar to reach! ), all sliders, french and front doors, all kitchen cabinet door fronts, larger toys (we have a Little Tykes yard castle in our living room, etc.), TV and computer screens, dog bowls, figurines. That's all I can think of right now. The only down side is I have to pick up so she can clean. I'd almost rather clean and have her pick up! But we can't have everything. :(

Yeah, me.

I have a woman who has become my friend over the past 4 years. She cleans my kitchen/laundry room, family, dining and living rooms. Both bathrooms and the halls. Basically everything but the bedrooms. She comes every other week and I pay her $60.00

I was thinking for a while that I was not pleased but I got Merry Maids to come in and they did a terrible job with two people and it cost me almost #100. I am sticking with Mary Ann.

When I want something added or changed, we discuss it and I have never had a problem. I also purchase the supplies.

I would suggest making a list and be sure you both agree on the items they want cleaned. See if anything needs special care. I have laminate flooring and it needs a spritz and mop of a special product but no soap or water. Make those notes and then agree on a price.

I don't have a cleaning person but here is what I would like:

Load/run dishwasher
Wipe down table, counters, appliances, chairs
Clean kitchen floor
Vacuum living room, bedrooms, hallways, and stairs
Dust
Clean bathrooms (tubs, toilets, sinks, mirror, and floor)

I agree with the other posts, ask upfront what they are wanting.

I have a friend that cleans and the way they started was by interviewing the individual. They went to the house walked through and discussed what was needed in each room and how that individual wanted it cleaned (water and vinegar, disinfectant, etc). Then went home to figure out the time needed to clean. The first cleaning was always the most expensive and as long as they cleaned on a regular basis the price for additional cleanings was a little less. They did find houses that took just as much time the next time as the first time and either raised the price or dropped the house. The clients all buy their own supplies since they each have different things they like to clean with.

We have someone come in every other week. When she first started she came and walked thru the house with us and we went over what we wanted done. We also used our Quicken Home Lawyer program and drew up a housecleaning contract listed everything to be done and how much she would be paid.
This is what Maria does for us, she dusts everything including blinds, baseboards, bannister and light fixtures. She vacumes all carpets, rugs and furniture. Mops all floors. Cleans all bathrooms (toilets, tubs, showers and sinks). Cleans the kitchen (counter tops, cabinets, sink, and inside and outside of microwave.) She also wipes down the breakfast area table and chairs. She cleans all TVs and coputers (keyboards and monitors). She also does all mirrors and doors with glass. Our house has 3 levels including a finished basement. Since she works by herself it takes about 4-5 hours to get everything done.
We buy all supplies, she just lets me know what needs to be replaced.

I used to have a cleaning person until I realized how much it cost me every year, If they came once a week it would be over $4000 a year and I was thinking how far that would go toward a vacation and suddenly cleaning didnt seem like such a huge chore...!!!

Mine starts Monday!

I have had them in the past and I think it is really kind of silly for a single female, but I am traveling 99% of the time on business right now and I just don't want to dust and mop on weekends so..... I only have them everyother week and they just clean, no laundry and no dishwasher. Everyone I have used brings thier own supplies, but I am not picky!
