Anyone have a cat that does this?

My dopey cat likes to sit by his FULL food bowl and cry. He won't eat until you push him into the bowl. Then he stops crying and eats. Does he need kitty therapy?

I have one that will sit by the bowl and holler too. He wants you to put fresh food on top or to stir it up for him.
Maybe your kitty would respond to that, maybe it doesn't smell right to him.

My cats fortunately don't need a push towards their food dishes, but they are very particular about their food.

Our kitten Daisy (well she's 2 now) wants fresh food put on top of her old food every morning. She could have a full dish and I still have to scoop some fresh food (even if it's a few pieces) on top before she will stop howling at me and giving me the stink eye.

Her brother Pugsley is 10 1/2 and he won't eat what we call "the nubs" - the little bits left in the dish. Sometimes he'll have a dish 1/2 full of nubs and he won't eat them. We had a day long stand off w/him a few years ago and he just refused to eat, so we broke down and gave him fresh food. Can't say I blame him for not wanting to eat "crumbs". :P

Guess I have 2 spoiled kittens - but I love them very much just the same.

We have to keep my roommate's cat from eating too much..they are a pair of little piggies.

Mine does this with her water dish...it can be almost full, but I have to empty it out, rinse it, and refill it until it's almost overflowing before she lowers herself to take a drink! Even if it's only been a few hours since the last time I filled it!

My cat lays on the floor next to his food bowl and scoops out food on to the floor with his paw to eat. Lazy lazy cat.

my cat used to do that also, and I think she did want to eat the left over food, but we left the bowl for like two days and it was half full, and finally she got so hungry she just ate it, and she doesn't mind so much anymore. She also used to refuse to drink from a full bowl of water, even if the water was just put down, she would sit right by the sink and want you to turn the water and drink straight from the faucet. Then I moved in with my boyfriend and he doesn't like her on the counter so she's forced to drink from the bowl once again, but then I started putting icecubes in the water and she really enjoys that. =) sorry your cats are all just as picky as mine :teeth:

tricia.

Both of mine will stand at the food dish and holler for you to scratch their butts while they eat. They won't start eating until you start scratching. Luckily this doesn't happen too often, but when it does, they sure do holler loud! Your reward is a loud purr munch munch sound. Very strange.

Neither of the 2 little devils will eat the "nubs" either. And we have done the stand off route, didn't work either.

Silly silly kitties, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

our cat, who's 10 years old now...won't eat if there's a hole in the food. she'll eat her food until it forms a "hole" in the middle of the bowl and then refuse to eat any more until the hole is covered...

animals...

ooh ice cubes in the water! I'll have to try that...

My cats like their canned food stirred up after it's been out for a few hours...and one of my cats will take her food out of the dish and drop it on the carpet - which is a good ten feet away- then eat it off the carpet. I have no idea what this is all about!! Needless to say I'm trying to break this habit but it's hard when I'm at work all day.

All three of my cats also like to drink out of the bathroom sink, or jump into the tub to drink after I take a shower. It's like they'd rather drink anywhere but the water dish - even though I put fresh water in it every day!!

This thread is cracking me up!!

What would we do without our furballs and all their idiosyncracies (sp?)

Yes, cats like the motion of you feeding them. They like to see you feed them even if there's food already in the bowl. Its like a stimlus-response thing, like Pavlov's dog and the food bell!

Maybe someone can explain to me why cats think that drinking out of the toilet is the best thing ever? I keep having to watch them because no one ever puts the lid down.

Our cat doesn't like to drink out of the toilet - she just likes to play in it and get water all over the toilet seat. And then run away like she's a good little girl. She also LOVES water. Not only to drink it from the sink/tub but she loves to play in it. She sticks her head under the faucet with it running and loves to try and stop it from coming out with her paws.

She doesn't have any funny ways to eat and drink except when she is ready to be fed (she gets fed twice a day - around 6am and around 5pm - and she's on a diet) she lets you know. You better watch walking around her or she'll trip you!!! And she hollers when my daughter gets her lunch ready for school - she LOVES to eat balogny (the cat) and bread. And my daugther, every once in a while, will give her a small (very small) piece of bread and now everytime you get the bread out -she's a hollerin'!!! Same thing with the milk container - she knows it's milk and she wants it NOW! We only let her have about 1/8 of a cup of milk once a week.

My cat won't dine alone  When he wants to eat he will come up to us, or stand by the stairs going up to the kitchen, etc. and look at us, sometimes meow, until we go up to the kitchen and walk up to the bowl. Once he starts eating, we can walk away without any problem. What's even more odd, is that even though his bowl is in the kitchen, only feet away from the table, he won't eat while we are eating! Go figure!

When we travel and leave him home alone, he does eat, though not very much...I know he is waiting for his dinner companions!

I have a cat who will not eat by himself. Either I or my DW must be in the room with him before he will eat. If we leave, he follows us and cries.

Okay.... one more silly cat thing...

I have a cat that will only eat AFTER the others are finished. She waits behind while the others nitpik over the selections, when they're finished THEN she wanders over and nibbles...

She's extremely shy so I figure this is why she does it.

This thread is just too funny.

*LOL*
A frequently yelled line at our house is "Daisy, that's not a spa!" because she just can't get enough of the toilet OR dipping her paws in her water dish and then licking the water off her paws.

She also won't eat ANY "people food" - she will try to bury anything you put in front of her - plate or dish and all.

aren't cats just so much fun ,never a dull moment when there is a kitty in the house

I have two crazy cats too. They both love eating fish food!! and both refuse to drink out if a water bowl (so they don't have one now!)Instead they either drink out of the bath/sink or out of the pond in the back garden! My biggest cat, Cheeky (called this as he invited himself into our house when he was 10 weeks old and decided he wanted to live with us!) likes to sleep in the sink. He is a big cat and the sink is just the right size for him!
My friend has a crazy cat too. It can not miow, instead it quacks like a duck!
I love both my crazy cats though and would not swap them for anything.  :lovestruc

My boys won't eat their wet food unless I stay in the kitchen with them.

Their dry food is mixed - diet, hairball and oral care - and each type is a different shape. They will eat the oral care and hairball, leaving the diet. Every day, I have to tell them to finish the diet food before I refill the bowl.
