My DH and I are looking at used Rvs right now. We currently have a newer pop-up, but would love to move up to an RV. There is one that we are going to look at made by Cobra which is a 1994 with 70,000+ miles on it. We would rather have newer, but this is what the budget may allow right now.

If you have one of this age, what kind of problems are you seeing/can we look for? The one we want to look at has several new parts on it and appears clean by the pictures.

If you haven't done so yet go over to rvforum.net and check our their boards. There are many very helpful friendly people over there. We have an 06 so I can't answer any of your questions.
Good luck!

Many things can start to go.

If the refrigerator is original be prepaired to have problems. Water heater is another.

Many people look at the tires and see lots of tread and figure they are good to go. Not so. Every tire has a date code and it is suggested that rv tires be replaced when they are 5 to 7 years old. Date code follows the letters DOT on the sidewall.

Brake hoses start to dry and can cause problems along with the engine hoses and belts. Fuel lines and pumps(water and fuel) can be another source of concern.

Buyer beware.

Good luck.

We got our 1st RV last year and it is a Class C that is around 1994. We recently replaced the generator ($$$$) and the microwave and have an appt for the water heater at the end of the month. It seems every trip there is something else that goes wrong either mechanically or with the living quarters. Although my parents have RVd for many years and even with new units they have some problems. 70,000 miles is a lot. I think mine has about 1/2 of that. Good luck to you.

Those are a lot of wonderful suggestions and I would like to add another. Please have someone check the radiator. If the RV has spent time near the salt air, it is especially important. We have a '94 Class A and we are replacing the radiator right now. I am not a "fan" of the bill either. Granted, with a Class C, you are not going to have a Class A radiator bill, but almost 14 years with one radiator would make me want to check it. Just a thought for you...

Had a 94 minnie winnie , winnebago.31 footer. Had 60k miles when we bought it for 14k. First expense was for brakes, $700.00.We loved driving it,had lots of fun, with no other big repair bills for a while. Had some leaks, which I fixed myself. Kept it 2 years.Got 7-8 mpg. Now we have a 34 foot travel trailer, pick up, golf cart in back.I would not buy used again, class c or a, that age.The repair bills are 2-3 times more than your regular vehicle.Good luck, and I second rv.net,, wealth of info.
